First off...I'm excited. We have talent, experience, leadership, and a coaching staff that has a good vision coming back.

For 'Canes fans that can remember I feel like this team is a cross between the '99 and 2000 squads. The '99 team had a lot of questions because of the departure of Edgerrin James and had an unproven QB issue. Towards the end of the 98 campaign we had the big win over UCLA.

The 2000 team on the other hand a TON of talent, but still questions remained because of some losses during the 1999 campaign. Despite the losses, there was a certain feel of promise going into 2000.

The 2013 squad has a lot of talent.....and we are pretty much returning every starter. (Not gonna lie...I loooovveee Duke, but it would be bad *** to have Mike James back too.). The defense has questions ...especially on the defensive line, and so does the kicking game, but we are looking good every where else. We do have plenty of youth, but we should have some excellent leadership and a SOLID starter under center. With another year of U Tough and Al Golden leadership...I'm pumped. **** I hope UFag underestimates us.

You could compare this team to the 1985 team. They come into that season as a virtual unknown. Obviously he '85 team had a ton of talent as well.

Thoughts...

add in a couple big time prospects from this class and some day 1 starters from JUCO and hey we aren't looking to bad.....

Its too early to to say this team is a cross between the 99 and 00 team. Cause we have yet to have signature win like those teams did.

The 98 team beat UCLA and won a bowl with a 9-3 record. The 99 team won a New Years bowl game, out manned Ohio St team, was winning deep in the 4th QTR against a Penn ST team that won 10 games and started out 9-0. We also we tied with the eventual national champion FSU on the road IN THE 4th QTR. In comparison the team NC title contenders we played this year beat us 93-16. Where is our signature game? NC St or GT? Not getting completely blow out by FSU??

So going into our 2000 our team won 9 games two years in a row and was a preseason top ten. To summarize we started off 98 unranked won 9 games and finished ranked. Were hyped in 99 preaseason top 15 lost some tough games ended season on a winning steak and finished ranked. So you half comparing a team that made a title run finishing #2 to a team that gone 13-11 and hasn't been ranked in a couple of years. Add to that our defense was 117th!

I think we are more of a cross between 98-99. We had a winning record, were very young, and propbably start next season almost ranked almost or 22-25 range. Which preason wise would put us above how the 98 team was viewed and below the 99 team was viewed preseason.

i want to believe ...however I am not getting too excited to I see how we perform against UF

Remember the strength of this team was its offense and they 3 good defenses we played KSU,ND, and FSU shut us down!

If we can score some points against UF I start believing. Also Duke Johnson has been shut down in the games were teams had equal athletic ability. The big 3 on our schedule. Now we all know Johnson will feast on the lower half defenses cause he so deadly in space. However Is his game ready for UF and FSU fast physical defenses yet??

agreed it just seems like the 2013 season seems about 359 eons away at the moment. i just hope this NCAA investigation ends soon in our favor. i will be so livid if another bowl ban is imposed, and honestly i cant believe that after two years of investigating the NCAA just now tries to strong-arm ex-players into giving interviews. Has the NCAA just been fingering themselves internally for the past two years? Cause idk what the **** theyve been doing if just now theyre asking, correction, threatening for interviews.

BUT that being said we are going to straight BALL OUT in 2013. Imagine if we beat FSU AND Florida. I know thats asking a **** ton but I whole heartedly believe we can beat FSU and who knows, maybe **** will fall our way for once (in the past decade-is) against florida.

Hey.. I can hope, right?

We are pretty stacked at every position assuming we lock up a massive DT and maybe another DE recruit

Kind of tough to compare to former teams considering Miami hasn't been as bad as we've been defensively since the Howard era. Expectations wise I think 1994 sounds about right. We expect to have an *** kicker with some transcendent talent on one side of the ball, and hope we can patch together the other side in order to make the leap. In 94 Costa pulled it together enough to be in striking distance of a MNC, hopefully DP and company can do the same thing in 2013.

ACC Coastal of GTFO

We have owned GT for the last five years
VT is slowly turning into garbage
UVA is garbage
UNC lost their O line and their RB
Duke doesn't have a football team.

ACC Coastal or GTFO

Another year under their belt in the weight room and having some continuity in coordinators "should" give them 10 wins.
Gotta beat Uif, IMO.

Depth on D line will suck no matter if we pull in 1 or 2 dl recruits. Injuries will happen. If we lose Porter, it kills us.....with his history, its a probable we lose him at some point. We should be good, but will lose at least 3 games and possibly one we shouldnt because of our D depth issues.

Three? Who do you figure? IMO there's no team that has a clear advantage over them next year, unlike FSU, KSU and ND did last year.

I been saying it since the season ended. Miami returns 20 of 22 starters. Porter and Henderson are coming back. It's the best OL at Miami since 2000-2004 run.. The coastal will be down once again. Virginia loses a bunch of sr on defense and their QB who owns Miami plus a huge staff turnover. NC loses alot on defense and the best player in the ACC in Bernard.. GT loses QB and we own them and play them at home this year. Duke is Duke. VT should bounce back but will should beat them still they lose their top 3 wr.. Miami should dominate the coastal. 9-3 should be the minimum next year.. ACCCG appearance should be a given...

Don't forget....unlike last year Morris will actually be playing/getting reps this spring. If Swasey can toughen these boys up some more and we stay healthy, we will be a force next year.....but the D Line MUST step up. As nice as our O line is, I firmly believe they need to step up/be more physical than they were this past season. At times the o line wouldn't get much of a push and the ground game would become stagnant.

While we should be much improved, there are still lots of question marks. We need another reliable back to sub/complement Duke. We need a lot of folks on defense to step up. We still have to land several DT studs. We still need to sign the depth we need in folks like 6. Kicking will be a huge question mark. So dont get too excited just yet....
