Local Media Is Part Of The Problem

Have any of them ever pressed Richt or Blake James about anything? Ever?

Same for when Golden was here.

A serious legitimate question they should have asked from Day 1 for example: How is Jon Richt qualified to be a QB coach and if he wasn't your sin would you feel the same way?

They're more concerned about access than serious joirnalism.

They would get their credentials pulled.

Then they'd have an even better story on their hands.

Thing is, Miami's sports media is every bit as lazy as Dicht. They all follow the same formula, the calendar is just an annual merry-go-round for them. They do the same things, post the same stories at whatever time of year it is. They don't care to, or need to, think. Like, ever.

Jeeeeezzzz, half their stories are nothing more than posting quotes of what the coach said on a radio or after practice interview.

I was just watching an interview with Patke from last training camp because I wanted to see how he spoke and handled himself.

I cannot believe Susan Miller Degnan collects a paycheck from a major newspaper.

Her questions were akin to things a 12 year old would ask.

Lol at the media being the problem. They dont have a big college fanbase to report to. Just a small collection of self professed hurricane AD and coaches in the making.

Y'all crack me up. We talk about how Alabama media is scared to grill Nick Saban for anything he does wrong, but when it comes to Miami we want our media to make Richt as uncomfortable as possible lol

Nick Saban's not running a program into the ground.

Example of what I'm talking about: Barry Jackson framed the lost of Zipperer and Summerall as the first disappointments of the day for UM.

Think about that for a moment.

He also isn't running his program cleanly. You think its alright that none of the media members question if he could win without so many staff members? What about if bag man are real?
I'm not talking about hypothetical or innuendo, which absolutely is worth investigating, sure.

I'm talking things happening right in front of everyone's eyes like playcalling, offensive performance, lack of blue chip recruits, etc.

I'm talking simple questions that don't involve the word "if".

There were plenty of questions about Hurts for example and that was when they were WINNING. There was more scrutiny on him than there was on Malik.

Media isn’t the issue here imo. You want changes? Well that falls squarely on boosters. And we already know they’re upset. It’s up to them.

You're missing the point. You can't blame the media for not being able to influence a private school's decision. They have zero pull, because if they ask the tough questions, they will simply get removed from future interviews and/or media viewing time will be cut out completely. Same with Nick Saban, if the media dares to annoy him or make him uncomfortable they will probably not be that safe going home from work.

That's a two-way street, though. The University wants media coverage. UM wants it's coach on TV, being seen, advertising for UM. UM also wants the football team covered by local media. Pull too many credentials, and the school ends up with less/not enough coverage for the market. So it's a bit of a balancing act.

In theory, if the members of the local media, collectively, toughened up, it could put UM in a bind. In reality, the SMDs of the world, who are contempt to lob softballs and cover the stationary bike during practice in order to collect a paycheck, make that theory a wild fantasy.
