2019 OT/OG Jamari Williams really impressed college scouts with a big junior season in 2017 in which he showcased his athleticism and strength on the field while playing a new position for Cardinal Gibbons.
“My junior season went well,” Williams said. “We made it to the 3rd round of playoffs. I really did well, I made first team All-State and I played right tackle for the first time. The year before, I played guard.”
Williams has racked up 13 Division 1 offers based mainly on his junior film, but is hoping for local interest from one particular school: the Miami Hurricanes.
“I hear from (Miami OL) coach Searels, not as much as I want though, as of now.”
It’s true that Williams is waiting on a Hurricanes offer, but the interest from his side could not be higher.
“My Interest is extremely high, Miami is my dream school,” Williams said. “No program can compare to ‘The U’. I like how the coaches let their players play, let them bring their swag on the field, and how the best man plays.”
Another draw to Miami is Williams’ relationship with a certain Hurricanes sophomore WR.
“Mike Harley is my boy, known him a while,” Williams said. “We train together.”
While Williams is declining to name a top group or leaders at the moment, a few ACC and SEC schools have been pursuing him intently over the past few weeks.
“No real favorite right now, but Boston College is recruiting me hard, as well as Kentucky, NC State, and Mississippi State,” Williams said.
With about a year until Signing Day, many 2019 guys are unsure when they will make a final decision on college. Williams, however, has an exact date in mind for his commitment, in honor of his mother who passed away.
“I’m trying to honor my mother on Mother’s Day in honor of her death,” Williams explained of his decision date.
And when it’s time to separate one school from all the others? Academics and the surrounding environment will be deciding factors for Williams.
“I’m looking for a place where I will meet great people off the field and get an awesome education,” Williams said. “A place where coaches care about their players and train you to be the best person on and off the field.”
