Linebackers look to be biggest need

We've got to start grooming kids as the big 3 could all go as Juniors. Other than the Oline I would think every other area is solid.

LOL...what about DT for '18?

Moten, Norton, McIntosh could all leave!

That leaves us with
Ford = no starts
Willis = no starts
Bethel = no starts
Nesta = freshmen
+ Fines/Martin = no starts

If you are looking at '19 year...what about '17 and '18?

I trust this staff will close strong just like they have the last two years. My guess is they already have Plan Bs that look like Plan As.

Like I been saying our backup linebackers don't even fit our scheme or style. Like our DL recruit, we need hybrid speedy LBs that can play physical like a Ryan Shazier (Just look at Ryan at Ohio State - you'd think he was a DB). Speed is what makes Manny Defense goes and all of our recent LB recruit are either slow or stiff. This is why 4-2-5 works so well because there is more speed on the field. We put to much stress responsibility on our LBs so we can't have slow, stiff LBs out there.

Wilder and Steed aren’t slow

Jennings is a true Mike, in a perfect world he is depth but hopefully he proves me wrong and provides solid completion and makes everyone better by legitimately competing for a starting spot once Shaq is gone.

The OP has a legit question. Although I don’t think we lose all 3 backers after next year either, I do feel like this is the year to take a flyer on a guy like Bonnito. High ceiling guy with uber athletic ability who won’t be forced into action and can learn. Take him along with a longtime target like Joyner, who I’m starting to believe isn’t coming, and call it a day.

Will be interesting to see what we do with our 2019 LB commits. We are in a fabulous position now and kids will soon be knocking on our door. Seems like the Deerfield kid for 2019 is really warming up to us along with Brown from STA. 2019 SHOULD be a 3-4 LB class, but we really need to find STARTERS in that group like the ‘16 class, and not just bodies/depth.

How about grooming Trent Harris he is fast tough and instinctive or Finley. We have some schoolies left assuming we get Jarren and now that some Defensive backs are coming through we could get top heavy there. We still have the time and numbers to solve this issue.Smith and Owens only legit players if any of the big 3 go down it will be precarious.

We're in decent shape...
2019 LBs -- McCloud (Shaq and Pinckney could be gone)
Sneed
Wilder
Jennings
Gordinier (If healthy)
One from 2018 class (Joyner?)
3 or 4 from '19 class (Elite class expected. Early contributors likely.)
Maybe a safety convert

Too bad.

Im with the OP on this one.

Im very concerned about the lack of linebacker recruiting in this class. We need at least two.

South Florida is loaded at LB in 2019. Our coaches know this. We'll probably take 4 and I wouldn't be suprised if 2 start right away.

Posters don't realize having an all-Soph LB trio has made it tough to recruit the 2018 LB class. That's specifically why Rosendo Louis chose FSU. He wants to be able to start as a freshman.

If guys are only going to be here 3 years, you have to expect kids to play as freshmen. LB just isn't as big of a need as other positions for 2018, and you have to make the scholarsip #s work

Steed, Jennings Wilder we get one starter for sure. We get another this year.

One of the 3 at least stays 4 years but probably 2.

Derrick Smith moves to LB and will be one of the best there.

We will be fine.

Lighten up and have some faith. We are back on top stop scting like we are still rudderless at the top.

With the DB class we appear to be bringing in, my next thought was which DB do we move to LB. I agree that Derrick Smith seems to be a likely candidate.

Smith isn't big enough. Looks 190ish right now. Carter could add 10-15lbs and get to LB but he is pretty skinny, too.

How about seeing which of the kids continues to grow? Finley, Carter, Smith, Knowles...what about the DB group we are bring in? I'm sure some will say X is going to be a LB after a year.

If by some chance we get joyner he could be a answer.

Does anyone else think Amari Carter plays like J Grace and could be that hybrid guy we're looking for? I like D Smith there too. Not sure what Finley has to offer, but the fact he's already been passed up doesn't suggest he's the guy you expect to move to LB and replace Mike Pinkney. Carter/Smith ... maybe.

Amari would have to get bigger but he's tough and instinctive

Wtf? Our lb unit is the deepest unit on the team. We're ELEVEN deep there with no seniors. Our starting linebackers are sophomores ffs.

Why people are having conniptions about linebacker is something I will never understand. With all the spread crap offenses run, only 2 lbs really get starter minutes, with the third sharing time with the nicklebacks.
