1. Young but experienced team
Leonard Hamilton had a few tough beginnings to the season a couple of years back, but now he’s turned things around with a solid 10-4 record and a team that’s young yet has gained some valuable experience. Florida State starts a freshman, a sophomore, two juniors, and one senior. The lone senior contributor, Jamir Watkins, is their best player, averaging a team-best 19.3 points per game. Of the young pups, Daquan Davis is the best of the bunch averaging 9.0 points per game.
2. Two Giant Post
To say Florida State lacks size would be an understatement. They have a pair of forwards, Malique Ewin and Taylor Bol Bowen, who are both over 6-foot-10 and in the starting line. Both average more than five rebounds per game and one block per game.
3. Leonard Hamilton has beaten Miami three times in a row
Sorry, but we got to talk about it, the last time Miami beat Florida State and Leonard Hamilton's team was back in 2022 after the Seminoles went 9-22 that season. That same year they beat the Miami team that went to the Final Four that year after Matthew Cleveland (yes THE MATTHEW CLEVELAND) hit a buzzer-beater shot to stun Miami. Last year, Miami fell just short against the Seminoles after falling twice to the Seminoles with a score of 75-84 and 75-83. Hopefully, the Hurricanes can make some magic today and stop this streak by Florida State.
4. Jamir Watkins is the third-leading scorer in the ACC.
In his second season as a Seminole, Watkins is averaging 19.3 points per game, which places him behind California's Andrej Stojakovic. Watkins is shooting at a percentage of 44.0% and shooting 32.4% from behind the arc.
