LB play will be the key to the game tomorrow

They RPO teams to death, looks like ND after first few drives just said **** it we will make decision in rpo game for them and live with results, worked really well for them as I dont think UNC scored much after that.

Defensive line has to stonewall these guys.

It might not hurt to start Jon Ford, who has been coming on in the running game. Their O-line is great obviously. It's not just the backs.

Not to be a ****, but we should just have these lbs play plus Brooks. If we need anyone else, let TAC come in. Nobody else no matter what.
LMAO, we have this dude named Frierson, remember him?
Also, why in the **** would you be limited in your depth against a run game like that. Keep them fresh, limit the plays that the liabilities get, but they need to get reps.
One of the biggest parts of having an elite team is having depth and utilizing it properly, thats exactly how the best teams wear each other down.
UNC is nowhere near as deep as we are right now, and our young bucks on defense are starting to show that.

A lot of folks don't consider the striker position to be a LB. The only one he excluded from our LB rotation was mcCloud

For all of his shortcomings as a DC and defensive mind, Manny has been pretty good at limiting the other teams best skill players. It's usually a nobody that ends up destroying us.

Howell will have to win this game if UNC is going to be victorious.

Not just LB play, tackling and striker play in general. Frierson and Smith need to have a monster game.

There will be times where Carter and Williams will get behind the front four and this is where these two will have to step up and make a good tackle. Dont go for the big hit with these guys, they break tackles like ****. Wrap up and bring them down like you did agaianst Duke.

Thats a good point, its basically another safety that plays in the 2nd level. ST would have been the a GOD in that role, despite his status previously.

I love the striker position

If Howell has time he will look like Baker Mayfield against the titans last week. They have similar play style. Howell will shred our secondary if we can’t get pressure with our front four

Key stat to remember, UNC has lost every game in which their opponent outrushed them. Stopping their running game is the key and to do that we need exceptional LB play. Also, we need Nesta, Miller, Ford and JHH to be disruptive in the middle. And we need to tackle extremely well.

Worst thing you can do with RPO is have someone play in the middle ground. Same idea, as a pitch option with a DE, if he plays monkey in the middle, neither the RB or QB get covered and the pitch option goes all the way downfield.
If you saw that and that's what they did, then good on them!

That worries me for Jennings and McCloud who are slow to mentally process plays. Is this game is about decision making for lb’s then you have to play Flagg. Even if he’s physically able, he’ll make the correct decision much more often than not.
Or you do like an earlier poster mentioned about ND. Dictate on defense whether it will be a run or pass and live with the results.

Frierson is a striker my guy. Also, I was basically saying to sit McCloud.

hopefully we play a little more conservative as opposed to our feast and famine type of defense that tends to give up charge chunks. Gap integrity among the front 4 and limit the haphazard stunting that leave gaping holes that suspect lbs then have to fill up.

We should have decent enough production just rushing our front 4 that we don't have to do all this stunting/blitzing. Ok with well disguised and timely blitzing, but lets cut out the unnecessary cutey pie gimmicks!

The second key behind stopping the run is going to be how many contested catches our CBs give up.

Howell tosses up a lot of 50/50 balls.
