I dropped by the board today to see where you guys thought Devonta Smith was heading and was surprised how little faith you had in the Hurricanes' chances. I spoke with him this morning, because we are live streaming his announcement, and we initially agreed on getting the post-commitment interview out of the way. The interview didn't get done because he is "going back and forth" on Miami and Bama. Some of you may know me, most of you don't, but Pete, Paranos etc. will tell you I'm not blowing smoke. We can't even do his photo edit because he simply does not know yet.

Mark Richt is someone Smith really connects with. Add in the fact that he is familiar with most of the staff and there is a sense of comfort for him down there and they are firmly in the mix. Jorge Baez has played a role in his recruitment as well. LSU doesn't appear to be a player, although I see a scenario that could let them become a factor in time, but the kid seems really torn on Bama and Miami at the moment. This thing is fluid, but my money may be on Miami right now.

All being said, why make an announcement tomorrow if you are still going back n forth? Makes no sense at all.

Just another nugget on Smith.

He played on my 7-on-7 team the past two seasons and he is one of the top 2 we have ever had I am torn between him and Odell on that front, in front of Fournette and Jarvis Landry, although 7v7 isn't Fournette's game. The kid is extremely gifted and as natural as they come. He is younger than most prospects in his class, so I expect him to surpass the capabilities of others said to be on the same level in the near future. Ridley and Cooper are fair comparisons, but again, he is considerably younger than they were at this stage, and just as good. The scary thing is he is the best cornerback we have ever had, that includes LSU All-American Tre'Davious White, starting Panthers CB James Bradberry and many others. 3.9 student, an extremely hard worker, ultra competitive and is an elite athlete.

I think he picks Bama, hoping I'm wrong, but I don't think it will be his last commitment.

Wow. That's awesome to hear. If what you are saying is true, then that leads me to believe we could potentially flip him if he commits to Bama tomorrow. However, I have learned to trust Pete as he is right wayyyy more often than wrong, so I will reserve my excitement to a minimum. (Btw if you are trolling, which I don't believe you are, this would be one of the greatest troll posts ever. From the post commitment interview bit, acknowledging Pete and Paranos, all the way down to his GPA, this would make for one of the GOAT trolls.) Anyways, Go Canes!

EDIT: Now see OP is confirmed
