Last night’s game

That same film junkie was met with good riddance by a lot on here based on his play last year, He is obviously excelling first year in the NFL but was lambasted here for blowing coverages taking & too many risks, why do you think that is?
Maybe he tried to take up too much slack because other dudes weren’t doing their jobs. Maybe he saw plays that could’ve been made by players on the team if they would only see what he saw by studying the way he did.

Only here would we criticize an all American and day 2 pick.

or do you think that he was coached into doing that?

Exactly.

Valid points, but it's been a lack of continuity for Miamii while both those programs have been pillars of stability.

James Franklin just wrapped his 11th year in Happy Valley, while Brian Kelly did 12 years in South Bend before taking the LSU job and handing the keys over to his one-year defensive coordinator who the team absolutely loved, with Marcus Freeman turning out to be the perfect fit guy for a program that had been run smoothly for well over a decade.

Mario Cristobal as Miami's third head coach in five years when he took over in 2022; the Canes sixth head coach in 17 seasons.

Think back to the Kyle Wright era of this program and Miami taking a 5-Star can't miss kid and saddling him with two head coaches and four different offensive coorinators—Chud, Werner, Olson/Berry and Nix—over his five seasons at UM.

Winning cures all and Miami simply needs to find a way to win.

No, this program won't soon ever be like State College, South Bend, Blacksburg or any of these other one-horse towns mentioned—but when the getting is good, few cities show-out and vibe like Miami does when it has a winner.

Look at how those Heat teams gel and play off each other when Miami is winning big—and look what a disaster the franchise looks like right now as it's losing and it's star player is disgruntled.

Same or Canes basketball, which had a long-time coach in Jim Larranaga for over a decade, built a culture and has some real camaraderie during those Sweet 16, Elite 8 and Final Four runs.

Miami will never look or feel like other traditional programs, but the Canes were legit one defense defensive coordinator and a few stops from winning the ACC and showing out in the CFP with the offense it just fielded this year.

Clean up the defensive mess, land a solid teacher-coordinator, haul in Carson Beck for some offensive consistency and run it back in 2025 ... but also realize Notre Dame and Penn State are what they are due to being a model of consistency, while Miami has legit been a revolving door of coaches dating all the way back to the Larry Coker era and his offensive assistants.
What a waste, I’ll never bash that kid, what he had to put with in terms of coaching was great disservice to him. My opinion of course.

He's a great player but he was an all american then regressed his final year here to the point where our fanbase were fine with him leaving early..Take a look at our Draft history the last 20 year we arent exactly the beacon of development despite all blue chip talent we've landed...in my eyes its a mixture of bad coaching/development and evaluation/bad players. If you just wanna say its all the players fault and give the coaches a pass do your thing bro

I guess it’s harder today because of $$$ to weed out the selfish all about me players. It’s great when players return to win a NC. If this going to be the way it is forever i wish the school would separate athletics from the school, classify these kids as employees and let them pay for their own education. The more money they bring in pay them a bonus at the end of the year. The student athlete days are over.

Another thing that stood out to me about ND is that the backups came in ready to contribute. ND has had a lot of injuries this season and they had a few more last night against PSU. They never complain or make excuses, and the coaches get the players ready to play with a true next-man-up mentality.

ND doesn’t have more stars in their recruiting rankings than we do, but they have more depth which seems to be related to better coaching and player development.

The Canes had the best offense in college football this season, but they also had the worst canes defense I have seen in years. I don’t care what the stats say, I watched or attended every game and the defense got worse as the season went along and there was no scheming, preparation, coaching or player development going on that side of the ball. If we are going to win next season, we have to (and I believe we can) change all of that on defense and it starts at the top

love the entusiasm

but getting a half-competent DC would also do the trick
That would help a lot, but we need players with a high football IQ. As bad as the defense was in the Syracuse game, the 2 most critical mistakes were by WRs...X's fumble that was returned for a TD (**** happens and NOT a knock on X) and George's ridiculous unsportsmanlike penalty that moved the ball to the 23-yard line and killed our chances at a TD

I was at the game last night. I absolutely want to puke to say it, but man - it really feels like Miami is miles away from where those squads are.

The defense was so, so sound. The line play was great. Both teams tackled well. Both teams had eye popping athletes that really jump out at you. The energy and enthusiasm on both sidelines was really something, and the teams just seemed to care about each other.

I went to every home game for the Canes this season and I didn’t see anything close to that. And really haven’t since 2017.
On D yes I agree.

On Offense we better than both teams this year.

Showcasing two of our most hated opponents slug it out in our house was a perfect example on why we’ve sucked for so long.

The U became a place where you went to in order to get to the league.
It’s a common theme on top teams and it eventually leads to their demise.

Since then we’ve had a long run of talented players that come to Miami because they want nfl money and not because they want a brotherhood. Not because they’re willing do whatever it takes to win a championship.

As I’ve stated before. I suck at talent evaluation.
But there is no way your will convince me that besides a few db’s we didn’t have a more talented team than the two that played last night.

What we did see was a perfect display of all the cliches that everyone laughs about and the things that no head coach has been able to instill since Butch da gaawwwd left.

I saw well prepared and disciplined teams that PLAYED TOGETHER AS A UNIT ON ALL FACETS OF THE GAME!!

Can’t remember the name of that player that transferred from Vtech. He was asked in an interview on why vtech is so successful despite not having highly ranked recruits. His answer was “there isn’t much to do except football and the players are always hanging out together”.

If you attend our games it’s obvious to see that this team has not liked each other over the past 20 years with exception of the offense last year.

You see it in the lack of discipline. You see it when dudes that are out of position. You see it for at least 10 years on defense when dudes don’t communicate at all!!

This also happens in the nfl. You hear them talk about it. When teams like the ravens with Reed talk. When they interview the niners, the Bills, etc when they go on a few years of dominance.
You even see it in a team like Georgia tech when they beat us with a simple offensive scheme.

We’ve had a team full of individuals and the transfer portal with the money and the women and lifestyle here in Miami will make it even more difficult.
I’m not saying it can’t happen. But it’s obvious to see that as many have said “talent is not the reason why Miami can’t win”
I’ll even go as far as saying that coaching isn’t the reason why Miami hasn’t won its conference. It’s not playing basic football and caring more about not letting your teammates down more than you care about your own stat line. It’s not caring more about the score at the end of the game than your own highlights. It’s taking into consideration the time that the staff is taking away from their family to teach you how to win and be better.
It’s knowing that there will be games when you will be irrelevant to the fans and the media watching, but being in the right position may be denying your opponent to do what they can to win. Sometimes you don’t even have to make a tackle or catch a ball to be effective.

INDIVIDUALS PLAY THE GAME BUT TEAMS BEAT THE ODDS.

UNTIL WE GET A COMBINED 105 PLAYERS THAT SAY I AM HERE FOR MY BROTHERS WE WILL NEVER BE GREAT AGAIN.

That’s why those two teams are there last night.
That’s the reason why we haven’t won the acc despite out recruiting the basketball schools by a mile.
This is the reason why nobody is afraid of a team with 3 elite recruiting classes and top portal players. This is the reason why an 80 million dollar coach doesn’t make anybody lose an ounce of sleep.

Love your passion - few thoughts
- hard to argue these guys are actually "playing for their brothers" when a BOAT LOAD were transfers from other other schools ....ie they left a "bunch of brothers" for the cash. I dont blame them but stop with the brotherhood
- cliches like "playing for your brothers" sounds great - WHEN YOU ARE WINNING
- Miami won when we had NFL players, many who went to the pro bowl and even a few in the HOF. There are a ton of guys last night that will play on Sunday...... we have a few but nothing close to what I saw last night
