Eddie Johnson balled out. This kid reminds me of a bigger Sean Spence at his age.

I hope Duke got all of the drops out of him. The long crossing route he dropped would have been a TD. Turns out it did not matter because of multiple penalties. Even so he is the most explosive player we have seen since Hester. KO return was sweet. This kid is the goods! The other thing that really stands out is that he finishes runs just as well as James.

Safety play just terrible. Highsmith was in no mans land on the 30 yard TD pass that McGee got burned on. There was no other receiver on that side, yet Highsmith was slow to react. VT let the TE get open on that 50 yard play that Bush had to run down. VT has no other responsibility on that play and somehow he lets the TE go by him. Really bad play and inexcusable for a Senior.

Hurns was going to have a big day. Too bad he got hurt so early.

Morris played decent. He should have stepped up in the pocket a couple of times and instead he panics and runs outside. Had he stepped up on the play right before the first field goal it looked like the WR was open and could have been a TD. He also missed Duke on a couple outlets that would have been nice gains. He also needs to make quicker decisions as a couple of those sacks were on him. Having said that it is a pleasure to see a QB put some zip on the ball and get it into tight spaces.

Darius Smith got blown off the ball several times. DL did a nice job staying in their gaps but for the most part but they were just not big enough to take on double teams. Another year for these young guns is needed to win the battle in the trenches. We really need an edge rusher. Cain and Green just don not cut it. Nothing more you can say. Without a consistent edge rusher the options on D are limited.

OL played ok. They need to get better.

I must have been asleep over the off season. When did a touch back get moved to the 25?

Scott redeemed himself after a shaky first game. He looks to be the goods.

I really thought Paul would be a player here. Hard to imagine he is not better than Cornelius and Ambrister.

Overall this was a classic game of a young team on the road getting manhandled by a veteran team. Too many mistakes, too many turnovers, and not strong enough in the trenches. What I did see is a bright future. We can finally say we have multiple play makers on both sides of the ball. As long as the team gets better over the course of the season I will be happy. That and if we can somehow beat ND. Another year of "Golden's" players in the U tough program will do wonders.

I believe Paul is still working his way back, but agree that he has to be better than Armbrister, Gaines, or Cornelius, right....?

I know most people are thinking the defense will struggle this weekend, but my bet is they look pretty good. There won't be much to take from it, other than another game of experience for the kids and maybe some confidence.

Scott looks like a JAG to me.

the fact that Ambrister and Cornelius are getting significant time at LB tells you a lot about our depth. those guys should not be on the field on defense

Scott is a sophmore who is getting his first extensive PT, I'm willing to hold off on calling him a JAG.

Safety to me is just as big of a concern here as Dline. Both plays you mentioned just left me speechless. They saw the TE run the exact same pattern the week before (yes i understand it came off a different formation, but TE is a TE unless he an H-back) and same result = gets behind the coverage. And that td pass that mcgee got burned on, that ball wobbled in the air for a good 5 seconds. It was such a pad pass the inept Eric Crouch says "he throws a soft catch-able ball that receivers like." Yeah because it reminds them of pee-wee football! How are you not remotely in the area to make a play on that pass???????? When the ball was in the air, i jumped up and yelled pick! Little did i know it stood for 'picking your nose somewhere else in the field and no where near the play'.

That play plus the Rogers play against fsu last year to me says everything i need to know about highsmith, rogers and vt. Perhaps the first two improve some with Bush in the lineup but VT should just be in special teams.

If you are talking WR JAG's then Thompkins comes to mind. Scott has length and speed and has the ability to stretch the field. He also made a heck of a block on the long pass play to Walford. In my mind he has already done enough to separate himself from the likes of Thompkins.

Who would of thpught Kirby getting injured was a big loss.

Andre Johnson at times looked bad as youngster...got his eyes fixed I believe. Who am I kidding...that dude was a man when he was 17.

Scott is very sluggish to get moving. he caught a screen pass and looked like he was running in sand

Scott may be serviceable but he is limited physically IMO. I doubt he will be a game changer

I think Scott is physical and fast enough. Only problem is if he can consistently catch the ball and secure it.

I think they are all serviceable. I am looking for some signs of flash, or potential for some YAC. Besides the Move Malcolm Lewis had going in against BC, I have seen none of that. I know Dorsett has elite speed, and each guy has some area they excel in, but make a move after the catch!
