Just why is Dorsett our kick off and punt return guy? He does have lots of speed but no wiggle or abilty to break tackles, there has to be better guys on this team. Every notice all balls are kicked to him every game.

They put Davon back there when Duke got hurt in the FSU game. Not really sure who else could go besides Dorsett, Duke, Davon, and/or Dallas. Malcolm Lewis would be a good one next year along with AJL.

the fact that you brought this up right before the VT game is no coincidence. So, thanks to you, we will either win or lose based on a big play from us or them in the return game.

So, in advance, Congratulations and/or Go **** Yourself.

When is the last time Miami blocked a punt? That use to be Miami thing putting the best athelets on punt block and go after the block.

+1. Dorsett is fast. But no elusiveness at all. Dorsett has Darnell Jenkins symptoms.

And how many running into/roughing the kicker calls have we gotten since the last time we blocked a punt? I would love to be able to start blocking punts again, but every time we go after one I cringe in anticipation of getting a penalty.

I'm a fan of the special teams play, with or without blocked punts and explosive plays. Dorsett and Johnson have had their moments. Punt and KO coverage has been solid, minus some poor tackling. It's a nice weapon in a field position battle type game... except Miami hasn't really played one of those in a while.

Gotta pay to play the game.

Just down right scarry how you think one post will influnence the return game. Simple fact is everyone kicks to Dorsett because he is not a huge threat. Stacking the returners before the kick and splitting them at the last moment would stop that. Duke,Dallas,Davon or Finnie would be a better choice and not have to risk the number 1 receiver.

Its strange to see us have a team with such few choices in the return spots...wonder of D Crawford will also get a look there.

You our correct about few choices. This team at this time has very few true play-makers, we do have players that are capable at times. Even Duke who coming in was praised as a true play-maker has not lived up to his praise, it may well be due to injury time will tell. Lewis looked like one before his season ending injury and Dorsett was looking good before getting butter fingers during clutch plays. We do have lots of very young studs on this team that might break-out in future years but we have to live and play with the cards we are dealt at this time.

We haven't seen a block for a while because almost nobody blocks punts with any regularity. Gone are the days when Tremain Mack could just decide to go around the end player in the formation and block 27 kicks a game, or "Beamer Ball" meant blocking kicks, not just any time VT does something positive. While the shield is used for its coverage characteristics, teams rarely go for blocks and tend to set up the return.

It's also tough to block punts when a) your defense struggles to get off the field with any regularity and rarely forces teams to punt, and b) on those rare occasions where your defense does force teams to punt, the last thing you want to do is go after said punt and risk keeping your defense on the field.

A block and a long kick-off return in the same game who would have guessed. VT made a huge mistake not kicking to Dorsett like all the other teams have done.

81 yard KO return and 65 yard run with 200 something all purpose yards?

great to see that he's back, but he was invisible from nc state-fsu. the bye week really helped him rest those nagging injuries and another long week should be good for him to stay fresh for the last 3 games.
