Kam Kinchens talks return and expresses gratitude for support

Miami Hurricanes All-American safety Kam Kinchens discussed his return with the media on Tuesday morning.

During the game against Texas A&M, Kinchens suffered what looked to be a severe injury. Detailing that harrowing moment, Kinchens said, “Everybody seeing it just got a little shaken up… I remember everything that happened.” Describing the injury as a “little flash to the head,” he expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support he received while lying on the field, noting how fans and teammates rallied around him. While many speculated about a whiplash diagnosis, Kinchens clarified that it wasn't the case.

Kinchens’ return to practice has been met with immense support, especially from those in his hometown, Miami. When asked about the warmth he's received from his former high school teammates and coaches, he responded, “The support has always been there, even before the injury.”

The standout player revealed that this was the first time he had missed games since his youth. The injury and time away from the field seemed to deepen his appreciation for the sport. “You sometimes take stuff for granted… Coach Guidry always says it could always be your last game, so go out there and give it your all,” Kinchens shared.

While on the sidelines, Kinchens also highlighted the exemplary performance of Jaden Harris, who stepped up in his absence. “There was no drop-off between me and him,” he noted, emphasizing that they've always been in sync.

Kinchens revealed his commitment to community service. On the bye week, instead of resting or catching other games, he and several teammates, including Jaden Harris, Te’Cory Couch, Shemar Kirk, Chase Smith, Ja’Dais Richard, Malik Bryant, and others, took to the streets of Miami to feed the hungry. They bought food from McDonald’s and distributed it to the less fortunate in the Overtown community.

Anticipation is also building for the upcoming game against Georgia Tech. Fans might recall Kinchens’ phenomenal performance last year, where he secured three interceptions. When asked to compare Georgia Tech’s offense to last year, he described it as “very explosive” and mentioned several players to watch.

Lastly, on a lighter note, there's excitement brewing about the special black "Miami Nights" uniforms. Kinchens was thrilled at the prospect of donning them, stating, “It's an alternate uniform… I want to be a part of it.”
