in no way are we like 1 year away like ive been reading on here.

i see this as like whenever ken dorsey first got here. didnt play right away. once he did there was enough talent from the few classes before him that the team excelled.

translate that to kaaya or even allison. hopefully kaaya. look at our recruiting classes. 2013 was the start, 2014 was good, 2015 looks good, and 2016 could be top tier.

so id say around the 2016 / 2017 timeframe we should be back in the national title picture.

they also had a better defensive scheme back then(early 2000s) and i dont see that changing unless this years defense is just as bad in which case there will literally be no excuses and some changes will have to be made.

all the talent is lining up and the depth, conditioning, and competition that comes with that but we still need to be using our talent effectively which we are not doing at all now.

a few notes tho

olsen is trash and there should be no reason to even keep him in the picture. no maturity, no confidence. just seems like he wants to chill out and smoke pot all day. i dont know. thats the vibe i get from him. the staff brought in heaps because obviously they see the same thing. get a ******* haircut sunshine

our receiver corps needs to block better. watching all the highlights from last year. so many plays where their missed blocks ended plays which could have been scores

im expecting alot better things from our safeties this year. having highsmith and rodgers on the field playing was about as useful as having no safeties playing. their replacements should play alot better so lets hope for improvement regardless of scheme. should be good.

now is the time i think for us to start letting freshman play. coaches have been letting the senior players play (highsmith / rodgers) instead of underclassmen / new recruits (bush and jenkins) and all that does is take away their experience and ability to make plays on the field. the young guys are the future and are all now much higher ranked guys then the seniors and juniors they should be replacing.

if the new guys arent outperforming or at least on par with the scrubs from the 2011 or 2012 class then there is a serious developmental problem from the coaches. as in not getting espn300 level play out of espn300 kids. lets hope its just the older players being not as good and not poor coaching.

im getting the feeling that golden knows he messed up trying to run his 3-4 and cant back out of it now and that will hurt defensive recruiting for years to come. kids coming out of highschool want to play in an aggressive 4-3 where they can all make plays.

linemen dont want to play around with the offensive line.

they want to cause pressure and get sacks.

linebackers dont want to cover receivers.

they want to blitz.

corners and safeties dont want to play zone.

they want to play tight man coverage to break up passes and get interceptions.

the defense we run seems to be designed to not do what any player wants to do and so kids will simply not come. thats a big reason kids leave the state or choose our rivals. look at easley or jernigan. if we had those players they would not even have gotten drafted this year. theyd have no stats.

its a no brainer and i cant believe the staff does it this way.

when you have aggressive linemen they cause pressure on the QB and cause him to make bad throws. this lets your d backs have a much greater margin for error and allows them to make plays all the time.

and it works in reverse too. (i know ******* magic right?)

when you have d backs playing tight coverage your QB will take longer to make up his mind and throw allowing your d line to get through and sack him. its a 2 way relationship and it works for all the positions ie: LB to CB, CB to LB, LB to DE, DE to LB. you get it.

but the staff wants to be different.

but im an optimist. and a true fan so ill support the team no matter what. im not a coach. this is just my opinions and observations. i could be wrong...but i dont think i am. hopefully things get going again like they did in the early 2000s and stay that way.

Oth, the defensive recruits could see the NFL has a lot of D like what the U runs. They could see how Clowney and JJ Watt line up for the Texans or the Seattle or the Niners, Ravens etc.. A lot of high schools also run that style of D. Not that our guys are there yet, but it looks like it won't take too long before we get the players to do it. I see your point, we all want success for the U.

Honestly, if the newcomers at DT (like Wyche and Heurtelou) are who we hope they are, and we can continue to build more depth at LB via the 2015/2016 classes, then I think we're close to completing the personnel turnover needed to run the 3-4 sets that we've tried unsuccessfully to run so far. We've got the Hybrid/Rush/Jack guys (Thomas, AQM, McCord, D-Jack), and we're getting some SDE's who would normally be weakside DT's in the 4-3. We're bigger at LB than we've been in years.

The one piece that we're missing is a guy that I hope Jamal Carter or Marques Gayot can eventually be. I spoke to a friend of mine who is a Bama fan and a HS defensive coach, and spoke to him about the 3-4 base that Kirby Smart runs. I, like many others, felt that the 3-4 was predicated on the DT position and having jumbo LB's (which is, indeed, important), but he mentioned that guys like Mark Barron and Landon Collins were bigger FS's that were rangy/big enough to be a "thumper" type of FS that could come down into the box and wreak havoc, but also be solid in coverage. Just like the Rush/Jack position helps you to be more "Multiple" defensively, the same thing happens when you have that jumbo FS "thumper" who can give you more options out of your base D.

I think we're almost there from the personnel side. Now, from the playcalling/coordinating side, I'm not holding my breath. I feel the same way about NoDFrio as I do about #Dale. I think they've got most (if not all) of the pieces they need to succeed on both sides of the ball. I'm just not sure they will use them in the proper manner to make that potential success a reality.

I guess I'm confused as to why he says there's no way we are one year away and then gives the Dorsey comparison. LOL
