The way people talk there is a tree out there that grows high quality JUCO defensive linemen. Other than the front page article, I have heard very little about potential JUCO D linemen that will:

A. Be able to get into Miami
B. Make the impact on the field we are seeking.

Any solid options out there?

We should find out soon but you bring up good points.

I would rather take a raw high school kid than get another Smith.

I understand the idea of bringing in a JUCO DL to be field ready to decrease the learning curve and strength gap versus a freshman, but there just does not seem like there would be a very large list of studs out there. Couple that with difficulty getting transfers into the U (or perceived difficulty), and we may not get what we want/need in a time frame some demand.

I posted this the other day, but the staff is currently in the evaluation phase for these JUCO DL.

I've seen a lot of people compare the kid I had the story on last night to Smith, but that is an atrocious comparison. Smith literally had 0 D1 offers and we were the only ones to show interest and eventually offer. Cajuste actually has programs that have had success with Junior College linemen after him and it seems like his interest is legitimate.

As bad as the defensive tackle depth is now, imagine how bad it would have been if they didn't take Smith.

As far as options out there, I keep seeing people throw out Toby Johnson and Za'darius Smith, but those are unrealistic options that in all likelihood won't wind up here.

Cajuste is realistic as is another name to watch out for: Demetrius Campbell

Everyone is all over Smith. But he's starting! So what does that say about our depth? Robinson and Porter (always injured) are the only upperclassmen. Forston graduated early and maybe makes the WOAT 5-Star Bust list. Lewis was moved to OL, Jeffery Brown was kicked off the team and sucked anyway, Delmar Taylor never made it in, Tavadis Glenn never made it in, Louis Nix decommitted.

So right now, after Smith graduates, all we have are Robinson and Porter, plus three Sophomores who were all "development" not "ready now" recruits and should have redshirted (Pierre, King and Grimble), and 3 TFs who really shouldn't be seeing many snaps until late in the season next year. Given this situation, I'll take a decent Juco if he's available and "ready now" over a high-beta Bain.

Smith is a solid player don't get me wrong. Just saying I would rather use our limited schollies on high school guys unless we can pull a big time JuCo guy.

But I don't fault your point at all and its probably the route we go.

There are TONS of JUCO linemen that play and at Universities big and small every single year. National Champs and All-MAC players.

I'm tired of hearing the old excuse of "Well, where are we going to find X recruit to play"...I'dunno, they are all over the ******* place. Go find'em and get'em.

True and I'm glad we have the guy we do in charge.

On field is one thing but Golden will be out there beatin up those streets.

I wish we could take Juco DL with 3 years to play, I'd take a 3 year juco over a HS bust. I think Smith has been good not great, he's getting a bad rap yet he's beating out King(bust) and Grimble(4/5 star bust so far). He's been just as productive in his 2 years as anybody else we have on the DL which doesn't say a lot.

JUCOs just like HS kids shouldn't be taken if they aren't Cane quality. I am tired of taking all these projects. I have fallen for this trap too many times. Miami takes project, everyone gets ****ed, someone with "inside info" comes out and says he's a baller. Next thing we know kid gets props from coaches and then the hype train starts. Kid then gets in games and we see why nobody wanted him LOL I know we need guys badly at certain positions but quality over quantity for once please.

This. No excuses.

Meanwhile, Cortez Kennedy, Bryant McKinnie, Jeremy Shockey........
