It's funny but when the UM job was open back in 2007, a few posters threw out Harbaugh's name after his success at Unibersity of San Diego and were generally laughed off by the Grassy board. Don't think we even pursued him and he ended up taking one of the worst jobs in CFB at Stanford and turned them into a winner. It's scary to think what he could have done here. This is a guy who could coach circles around Saban.

Yeah I remember that. He was an interesting candidate but also seemed to be under-qualified at the time (look at who we hired LOL). He would have been a hire that would have drawn a lot of skeptics but he would have killed at UM. I know he's a Michigan guy but his coaching persona would have been a perfect fit with UM. He would have killed college football here.

He probably would have been hated by everyone around the country for beating teams like 73-6 without remorse and licensing our guys to dance and so forth lol

Yep. If I could have anybody in the country coach our team it would be Harbaugh. He was challenging plays when Stanford was up about 45 points on Wake Forest.

If Sam Jankovich was AD he would have given him a serious look. Scary thought.

Harbaugh's record at Stanford.

He is an amazing coach that really knows how to motivate or get the most out of his players. He is already one of the best coaches in the league and he is pretty darn young too.

God dammit, that would of been awesome. If anybody could of done anything with Kyle Wright and Kirby Freeman, it would of been Harbaugh.

If Harbaugh got the UM join in 2007, Steven Ross would have hired him as the HC of the Dolphins. Things happen for a reason. We were meant to suffer through the Shannon Error in order to realize the improvement of the Golden Era.

I dont think he was going to leave california. SDSU to Stanford to 49ers. He had the chance to go to the dolphins and turned that job down as well.

His ex-wife, was a stripper from Orlando at the old Flash Dancer on SOBT. They got divorced in California. He had Florida ties.

Stanford is far from one of the worst jobs in CFB.

But I remember the suggestion being panned on grassy. Look at it objectively. What about the hire wouldn't have ****ed off the fanbase at the time? Dude had minimal HC experience, no coaching experience at the D1 level, and no ties to SoFl recruiting. That would have been a massive risk. Especially following Coker, with the program already in decline. Would I have hired Harbaugh? Probably not. Without being in an interview, hard to say so in the affirmative.
