Those of you who followed him closely in high school or have seen him practice at Miami.

What are we to expect of him at this point? Do you think he can be the defensive end we so desperately need at some point.

He's rarely talked about on the board lately.

I think he'll be an NFL player. I don't think he'll look like the type of player people expect. He's a 2-gapper best suited for a 3-4 and will likely play a ton of contain under our current system.

Eh, I think he'll be a little more impactful than that. I think he'll put on some weight and gain some explosiveness which could lead to him playing a little end in the 4-3. He's going to be able to play all over. Nice piece to have on a defense.
More impactful than a future NFL player? I see a lot of Baraka Atkins' characteristics. In our current system, people would be wondering "why is Baraka just running straight into that OT?"

In Golden's interview today he said Jelani has hit the "rookie wall" but thinks he is going to be great player for us in the future.

Every year in UTough, I expect kids like him to get better as their bodies develop and so does their "football IQ."

quote from Golden today:

“He’s doing good. He’s just got to continue to develop the tempo that we need, the conditioning, and the approach to the game. I think Jelani’s going to be really good, I do. A lot of those guys during that middle part of the season hit a wall in terms of freshmen and he’s one of them. He just has to keep pushing through it, but I like Jelani. I think he’s going to be good player for us.” “He’s an end right now,” Golden said. “I don’t know what the Lord has in store for his body. I don’t know how big he’s going to get. Right now he’s an end, but he is 275 already so we’ll see how he develops.”

Sounds like Golden is praying to the good Lord that Jelani turns into William Joseph.

Lu, If you had to guess, do yo see Hamilton eventually taking over the SDE spot from Chickillo?

If i had to guess, I'd say no.

Disappointed he hasn't made a bigger impact this year. It was a golden opportunity for him. This roster is dying for a 260+ DE with length. He really needs to develop.

By "rookie wall" does he mean Gabe Terry's fist?

I know the opportunity was there but I wasn't expecting to much from him. After all he is a True FR DE coming off an ACL tear.

Why do we keep trying to convert DE into DT and TE? What's wrong with a 280lb DE? DE is the worst position on this team and Golden keeps on converting these guys.

No true freshman should ever be starting in the trenches. Miami should have a logjam at those positions where they would never be a starter unless they're just an absolute freak of nature with an unreal football IQ.

In all fairness though, dude is coming off a torn ACL and still got some snaps as a true freshman. I'm hoping the light goes on for him and McCord next year.
