2015 NT Javier Edwards from Aldine Davis HS in Houston, TX is quietly putting together a very good senior year. The 6'4" 330lbs nose tackle (who runs a 4.9 sec 40yd dash) is in his schools first year playing Varsity football, with Aldine Davis previously only fielding JV squads. Edwards team is currently 5-1 for the 2014 season playing in one of Houston's toughest leagues which speaks volumes to the type of coaching his team is receiving as well as Edwards coach ability. After watching his highlights from last year Edwards appears as a very very raw prospect who played with high pad level along with poor technique and simply out muscled his JV opponents in 2013. Edwards attended a few college camps this summer as well as was coached up by his High School coaches an it shows in his night and day improvement throughout the plays in his Senior year mid-season highlights.

Edwards still plays with a high pad level when he loses focus or takes a plays off; but those plays are becoming more the exception than the rule when it comes to Edwards play as a senior. When focused he plays with very good leverage and first step explosion which he combines with a natural strength (430lbs bench & 575lbs squat) that allows him at times to literally pick up double team blockers an throw them out of the way (which can be seen on his highlights). Edwards is being recruited by several teams (KSU, Miss St, Ark, & Texas) that have a great eye for finding massive interior linemen that can play and bring a blue collar mentality. Most schools have taken a wait an see approach to evaluate Edwards as a senior before giving him an offer, the only exception has been Kansas St who has gone whole hog in recruiting Edwards. An for Bill Snyder to put the full court press on a high school player you know the recruit has to have something special, because Snyder has built KSU primarily on recruiting JUCO kids.

Edwards brings a blue collar brute force "mano e mano" approach to playing the NT spot which Miami's 3-4 defensive front 7 would feed off of for years. Javier Edwards is a prototypical 2 gap Nose Tackle who can provide inside out support, whom with a redshirt year will be a solid a 3 or 4 year starter/co-starter at the FBS level. If Miami gives Javier Edwards the full court press starting now, I think Miami could steal a good one from the Lone Star State, because coming from metro Houston an given the choice between spending 5yrs in Manhattan-KS, Starkville-MS, Fayetteville-AR or Miami; it is an easy choice to pick Miami. I am hoping Jethro Franklin and Brennan Carrol see the light on this one, and offer this kid.

Interesting. That's a big, strong kid. Would like to see a little more explosiveness, but then I guess he'd be a 4 or 5 star and we wouldn't be in the running.

Surround a massive NT like edwards with speedy athletic DE/DT's from florida and you have an impressive front. Finding big boys that are this big and have that dog in him are difficult. Also it is very rare to find a NT rated as a 4* or 5*, the fact he is rated as a 3* not having a played a down of varsity football coming into the season speaks to his potential.

Fincholin brought Edwards to my attention back in the spring when asked my opinion on him, since then Edwards has progessed quite a bit, which speaks volumes about work ethic and coach ability an these to traits are essential in finding a good NT.

Paranos has a certain level of creditbility with me since his discovery of Courtel Jenkins early last year. So whenever he finds these no name NG/DTs that nobody could ever find but him..**** I at least owe it to him to read the **** ****. Never know.

That said, this guy doesnt look too bad. Keep an eye on him. We lose Wyche/Hertolou after next year so we will need some bodies.

the more DT and O-Linemen we could get would be better for us, the game is won up front that's what separate the good from the great teams, MISS ST is no.1 because of there O and D-LINE... we need linemen and not just any linemen we need DOGS...

So Paranos found Courtel Jenkins and the staff started recruiting him because of his post? I'm actually curious because if so then that's legit and good for Paranos, keep it up.

But I do remember seeing a bunch of random DT's out of nowhere being brought up by Paranos. Kids we weren't even recruiting. I appreciate the enthusiasm but I just don't see the need for posting a bunch of threads on some DT that we have no interest in.

I'm not trying to be a prick and I do appreciate the insight, but let's keep it limited to players we're actually going after.

It seems that the kids we are going after at DT, we are not getting. Moten is the exception.

Do we have a chance?

Yes his film has been under review by UM staff (finally) an if offered he would seriously consider Miami, the issue is Texas is starting to recruit him so of course staying home would a huge plus. But this is a very low key respectful kid, so I think the first one to offer a commitable scholarship gets him otherwise he is headed to Kansa State they have been on him for a long time.

As I have said for what UM does on defense with our 2 gap he is an ideal natural fit plus he has the athleticism to move between NT and DT.

Javier Edwards was named 1st team metro houston All District for Class 18-6A, which says alot because houston is like the dade county of TEXAS.

For those that talk all sorts of crap about whether the prospects I mention get D1 offers, y'all can kiss My ***. I was the first to mention Edwards and I was the first to mention Scott.

Florida football recruiting: Hulking JUCO DT Javier Edwards commits to Gators - Alligator Army

.Florida football recruiting: Hulking JUCO DT Javier Edwards commits to Gators
Florida needs to bulk up on its defensive line. Landing massive JUCO defensive tackle Javier Edwards, as the Gators did on Thursday, certainly means there will be more bulk at the position in 2017. ESPN's Derek Tyson was first to report Edwards' commitment.

Edwards is listed at 6'3" and 350 pounds by 247Sports, which is suitably huge for a run-stuffing defensive tackle, and should have three years to play two seasons of FBS ball with Florida, after originally signing with Texas State and then heading to Blinn College in 2015. Edwards is unranked right now, but was a three-star prospect and just outside the nation's top 100 DTs then, but did hold offers from a list of schools that included Miami, Texas, and Stanford as a senior at Houston's Benjamin O. Davis High.

Then, Edwards was a run-stuffing defensive tackle.

Now, Edwards is ... a run-stuffing defensive tackle.

For this second go-round in his recruitment, Edwards' offer sheet isn't so gaudy, without a single offer from a Power 5 school other than Florida.

But Texas State's still on that list. And Texas State's current staff has several coaches influenced by Urban Meyer, as former Meyer defensive coordinator Everett Withers took the job and then cobbled together a staff with a former Meyer quarterback (offensive coordinator Brett Elliott redshirted at Utah while Meyer was there) an Ohio State-turned-Houston staffer (Adrian Mayes, known as one of the brains behind Houston's wildly successful #HTownTakeover work), and several other assistants who helped Withers win 19 games in two seasons at James Madison.

While Edwards being esteemed by that staff is not the same as Edwards receiving universal recruiting industry acclaim, obviously, it says something to me. Maybe they — and Florida's coaches, including well-regarded defensive line coach Chris Rumph — see the broad shoulders and substantial chest that I see on tape and think that Edwards has a lot of room to grow as a player?

Edwards joins the squatter and more explosive Jordon Scott as Florida's second defensive lineman in its 2017 class. Florida now has seven commits in the 2017 cycle.

Paranos has been on some good DT prospects earlier than most.. That database of every kid in America 6'0 or taller and 300+ lbs is coming in handy

Wait, it says he had an offer from Miami? It was never reported, so I wonder if Miami had a conditional offer to him based on grades? I do specifically remember him though and I was high on him at the time, but that was in a 3-4. Not sure if he fits our scheme now but UF is definitely getting a good one, guy can play.

Added to your analysis. That was well done.

And I do so appreciating Paranos' dedication. Sincerely. MJ6 was just plain funny,

Parano i don't know what the world would do without your elite scouting ability....
