Butch Davis wasn't too shabby. Rick Petri was good, too. Bob Karmelowicz might be the best of all. We won a national title with Eric Miller and Anthony Hamlet as our two starting defensive tackles in 1991.

Palermo was cooking with gas in 2006. He couldn't get along with Shannon and got thrown under the bus.

Kul is a darn good position coach and one of the best in the country.

we shouldnt be recruiting incoming freshman based on replacing guys currently leaving. you should be looking at least a year, if not two ahead. knowing that those 2 would be gone regardless after 2018, is reason enough to have been recruiting more DT's.

you want them ready to go by their soph year. not counting on them as freshman.

If he signs wouldn't you agree the staff played it perfectly? They we're on him early, backed off and went elsewhere due to other elite targets coming available, and now they circle back when we have more of a need.

the DT's declaring should not have precipitated a need for a DT. that need existed without them declaring by virtue of them being juniors and graduating after the 2018 season.

my point is that we should not be recruiting based on our seniors. we should be filling spots at least 2 years ahead, so that you have players with experience ready to go.

Yes, but you got to get the kids to sign and be willing to sit a year or get minimal reps. Getting 5 snaps a game in garbage time doesn't interest a lot of these kids especially if they have equivalent offers. Many of these kids are primadonas but they do want to play. A reasonable shot to get 20 snaps a game is not unrealistic a want unless they truly are a project. Garvin was a man among boys. Got about 7 snaps per game and that cranked up especially when DJax went down. I think he got 20 to 25 per game.

Everything changed this cycle when McIntosh and Norton declared. This would be very appealing to kids even this late.

This is a development that excites me. Chatman’s senior film is really good. He’s got great athleticism and speed at his size and a great motor. The fact that he popped out on film on a DL with an elite talent like Adam Anderson is really nice. If we can land Nesta, Briggs and Chatman, that’s a great DT class.

To answer the various responses to my post, I wouldnt trade Coach Kool for anyone, but that doesnt mean he excels at everything, very few people do. Who the recruiters are is public info; there were posts today on other sites that Chatman's prayers were answered when he got the call from Manny Diaz and Banda is visiting Briggs today.

IMO it's not weird. It just means that the reports of him being Kools #1 target were wrong.
What Gogeta said makes more sense to me. Nests and Briggs were the priority and they were looking to take two and this kid was in the next group. One one the top two falls through of a spot opens and he gets the offer.
