Jalen Rivers is one of the few holdovers from the Manny Diaz era, but he has become a model of what Mario Cristobal wants as a Miami Hurricane. The Academic All-ACC tackle with NFL aspirations met with reporters after the second practice:

On getting back to Greentree: It was great. It was fun. It was competitive, of course. Coach Mirabal, he's the same coach. He's going to place us in different spots. We don't have a depth chart. We don't have a starting lineup, nothing. We're...

Great stuff as always, @DMoney! If we can maintain the same level of pass protection but slightly improve our run protection, watch out. Martinez will make things happen on his own because he's got that juice. However, if the line can make his life easier, we will see something from a running back that we haven't seen in a while.

Interesting comments about McCoy for sure

Great interview
Agreed. It shows what we as fans forget.

These guys may have the "NFL traits" like size but they are still kids and a lot of them don't know how to work or what to do to hone their craft. Coaching, culture, veterans, and competition help to show these guys how it's done as long as they want to put in the work.

It's been too long since we had those 4 pieces the past couple of decades. There have been times when we had it at a position group or two but Mario has been doing a good job at making it most positions.

Probably the best defensive line he's faced... on Greentree, or at all as a Miami Hurricane?

I sincerely hope it's the latter.

Coaching from the vets only happens when our kids stay for that 4th year to share their experiences with the newbies. We have missed that aspect for years now.

3 and done has been killing us ( along with many other factors).
Vets doesn't necessarily mean 4th+ years only. A lot of our guys were 3 and done because they didn't have good enough reasons to come back. The coaching, competition, and culture were missing for most position groups so most guys were betting on themselves to go make some money from the NFL if only a practice squad vs coming back and risking a lot more and earning no money.

NIL and improved coaching should help make those 3 and done guys come back unless they are guaranteed 1-2 round picks.

One thing that stands out with our starters/stars is they are taking on leadership roles and are helping others out and not accepting mediocrity. It seems like we haven’t had any dogs like this in awhile that really care about the team like these guys do. I’m excited as **** .
