Jai Lucas made it clear upon arriving in Miami that he aimed to recruit local Florida talent for the Miami Hurricanes, and he’s delivering on that promise through the transfer portal.
The Hurricanes recently welcomed two new transfers, with Indiana forward Malik Reneau, a local talent from Montverde Academy, and Michigan guard Tre Donaldson, who played in Tallahassee and for the Miami-based Nightrydas Elite in the AAU Circuit.
Speaking further about the Nightrydas Elite program, their head coach, Andrew Moran, is expected to join the Hurricane staff. This means that Jai Lucas is not only securing local state prospects but also bringing a highly regarded coach, known for his connections with players from Miami, onto the staff to assist with recruitment.
Lucas also believes that the state of Florida has the best recruits in the class of 2026, based on what he said in his opening press conference as the Hurricanes' coach.
“I mean it's kind of like I spoke about earlier. Especially with this next class coming up in 2026 class there probably Florida has the best talent coming up these next couple of years,"
Miami has already engaged in the recruitment of several top prospects in Floirda for the 2025-26 class, and Lucas has not even been on staff for a full two months. Lucas has a strong connection with Montverde Academy's 2025 shooting guard, Dante Allen, who is expected to visit Miami soon.
More on the portal, Miami has become a strong candidate for TCU center transfer Ernest Udeh Jr., a former five-star recruit from Orlando, Florida.
You can definitely say it's been off to a hot start in the Jai Lucas era.
