Demetrius Jackson is shutting down the recruiting process. After weeks of speculation whether or not he was solid to Miami, Jackson’s trip to Coral Gables over the weekend has locked up the budding star from Booker T. Washington.

“I was in the weight room and this might sound funny, but I pictured myself with the great players like my picture up there with them. It feels a lot like Booker T. Washington for me,” said Jackson.

What was Jackson’s favorite part of the visit?

“Just being around the class of 2014 was great. Nobody was really talking at first, but later in the night we were talking like we knew each other for years.”

Someone who Jackson has formed a bond with recently is fellow edge rusher Michael Smith from Miami Northwestern.

“We were just talking about how we are going to come in here and compete. Give it two years and we will put us back on the map. We will master our craft and be a force to be reckoned with.”

Jackson also got to spend some time with Brad Kaaya, Miami’s top quarterback commitment.

“I like him, he’s my favorite quarterback in the class of 2014. I’ve been watching him a lot and I like what he can do. He’s a great leader and I’m all for him.”

The 6-4, 215-pound linebacker brought his mother and sister along with him over the weekend.

“They loved it. They loved talking to Coach Golden and Coach Barrow and it felt like one big family to them.”

His expectations for the next few years as a Hurricane?

“Two years and we will be back on the right pace. We’ll win us a big bowl game next year and the following year it’s ours for the taking.”

Jackson had one final message for Canes fans as he prepares to sign his letter of intent in a matter of weeks.

“I say this in the most humble way, but just be ready. It’s been a long time since somebody in my family made it to college and I’m staying home for my community of Overtown. I will give everything I have to be the best I can. When I started, I had no offers and I’m not bragging, but imagine what I can do when I start putting on weight and working out there.”

"2 years and we will be right back on pace"

Sounds about right and by then we will have restocked the shelves with Al's talent

this kid is gonna be a role model. I am so glad to get him. Redshirt him, develop him, and it's on.

if only brandon powell could see the big picture. Since 2012 when tracy committed, we starting getting more and more of those "It's the []_[] against the world type kids"

Favorite part of recruiting for me - when a local kid decides to wear his city across his chest at the next level

not tryin a brag…..but im gonna be a straight BEAST!!!!

This here is a typical Butch Davis type recruit that would have come out of nowhere in the past. Undersized, hasn't developed his skill set or been in a serious strength program and diet… This kid will be a monster and he knows it!

I LOVE this. So proud of this kid for making it this far and really hope he can have even more success on the next levels!

The 6-4, 215-pound linebacker??? Thought he was a straight up DEnd or is this this hybrid rush end in the 3/4?

I guess D Jackson doesn't read these boards. 2 years from now we will still be losing because Al Golden will be here.

WTF? Why even post that crap in this thread. Plenty of places to do it but here after a good local kid wants to stay home and day all the right things?

Take that elelsewhere and let some us savor the good parts in this recruiting cycle.

he has to redshirt, he hasnt been playing football that long. it's best for his development he gets that year.

It was obvious sarcasm dude. I'm mocking some of the doomers on this board who say we will suck forever.

If only there was some sort of device to indicate sarcasm...an "emoticon" if you will...if only...:p
It's a message board, homes. We can't hear your tone of voice.

Kid is a potential monster. I hope he redshirts and gets bigger and stronger and learns the position. Hasn't played a ton of football yet and was still highly effective against major competition.

I think he is the type of guy that doesn't care what others say.

This kid has the mentality of the great ones. A huge chip on his shoulder. Put on for your city. God Bless the kid.
