Have high hopes and haven't heard much about him during camp, any word on how he's picking up the defense?

Golden has mentioned him before. Hopefully he can become a big contributor similar to Sean Spence and Denzel Perryman.

The first rehearsal went well for at least two high-profile Miami freshmen. Without looking at stats, coach Al Golden could say Miramar LB Jermaine Grace and Miami CB Artie Burns were a cut above.

"Jermaine Grace made you take notice of him," Golden said. "So we sat in there and put him on all the special teams last night and gave him a chance."

For Burns, "the moment wasn't too big for him," Golden said.

Golden was impressed with the scrimmage performance of several freshmen, including kicker Matt Goudis (3-of-3 field goals, all over 45 yards), cornerback Artie Burns, linebacker Jermaine Grace, Alex Figueroa and defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad. “Those young guys showed up for us,” Golden said. “The moment wasn’t too big for them.”

Forgot about that after the first scrimmage. It's a refreshing that we don't have to count on true freshman to start like the last couple years, but I really feel like Grace is a kid that has a boat load of potential, can't wait to see him after a year in program.

We have a nice blend of talent and experience at LB for the first time in a while. Not worried about Grace.

Love to be able to redshirt him, doubt that happens. He will probably see good amount of time on ST

He's one of the few FR I don't want to see RS'd. I think he will be a demon on STs and I want him to get some experience at LB. A few people have said Perryman may move on after this year and need someone will some experience ready to step in. I think Grace is that guy.

Remember he is a freshman so please don't go crazy about not hearing about him as a freshman!

Not going crazy at all, just curious to hear how he's developing.

When watching Grace during the all star game the one thing which stood out to me was the way he looked up receivers in zone coverage. The kid seemed fundamentally sound in that aspect. I said during those all star games I would take Grace over the other kid we were recruiting at linebacker.

I don't think he shirts either. I think he gets work on special team coverage and mop up duty. I like this kid's ceiling.

Yup. First crossing route the opponent ran, I mentioned "this kid just naturally got more accurate depth in his drop than anyone our team did all last season."

We need some head hunters on special teams. I'm all for playing any player that can help you win, and we sure need to win this year.
