You watch the first half of Bethune from 2012. Our offense sputtered against a mediocre FCS team. While I know our guys got better since then, I have to think FAU is better than B-C.

What are some reasons why you think we'll be able to avoid that kind of play this season?

I think you have to take into account, more experience, another year in the system, bigger/stronger/faster, and more maturity. Golden has weeded out all or most of the bad seeds. Everyone that is here now is here because they believe and want to be here. Also, Morris, Henderson, and Porter are in contract yrs. That should provide a little extra motivation.

I think every BCS team and conference winner never had a bad half against a terrible opponent. Honestly, we won by 4 touchdowns against an FCS team that went 9-3. Should we have won by more, sure. Could we have started better, sure.

The way you start off well or successful is doing the little things (executing your assignment, running the right route, catching the ball) that enable you to have a drive that ends with points. When your team comes out flat or anxious, you miss your blocks, receivers run the wrong routes and/or the QB misses his reads.

FAU sucks, there is no reason to fear them.

This thread reeks of troll.

You're talking about a game very early last season. If you can't tell the difference between Stephen Morris right now and Stephen Morris last September then I don't know what to tell you.

JK ****** negged.

Lol... I do think the OP has a point, he just doesn't know how to make it. Despite all our weapons, our offense was very sporadic last season against good defenses.. Everyone raves about our offensive line & from a potential standpoint, they should.. However, they don't dominate games like people pretend they do... They struggle in goalline/short yardage situations where it counts the most. For the most part, I think we have excellent pass pro.. but in order to take that next step, our run blocking will have to step up immensely. In saying that, we will dominate FAU.. I'm just talking about the physical defenses we run into in the ACC.. (don't laugh)

Yes, it is hard to an optimistic gator fan this year--- wait this a Cane site. What **** is you problem? Could the team lose games it should win--yes unless it finally breaks that habit. BUT everything indicates this team is different. It has worked its rear off and numerous future 1st round draft picks on offense and probalby some on D. Regardless of the outcome, the time consuming work load from the NCAA crap is over and the impact on the staff having more time to recruit is evident. I beleive we will crush any and all teams with the word Florida in their title this year. I will take the title of Undefeated Champion of Florida as a super nova event, with or without ACC or NC. Those will be easy after that.

A solid chunk in the argument of 'scheme vs talent' regarding defensive inadequacy can be derived from our games against Bethune. We gave up nearly 800 yards of offense to them in two games but only yielded 24 points. A pretty decent microcosm of what the Golden/Dorito defense is about.

Playing down to some bum program early on in last season doesn't mean anything. Point to the KSU or ND games if you want to have a discussion about us struggling with good teams, and even then, the implication of this thread is still that returning an entire unit won't lead to any improvement.

Playing with a Bunch of guys who ere in high school 4-8 weeks prior to the game might have added to the early sloppy play. But who am I to insinuate.
The team will be much better I can almost guarantee.

It was hard to be optimistic when that little punk Dorsey went 15/34 for 215 and no TDs against Washington.

New OC this year. I don't think the offense will have as many inefficient spells as it did last year.

I know the gameplan will be very vanilla, but I would like to see the DL and OL dominate FAU. I want to see the LB's blowing up plays in the backfield. It would be great to see the DB's making some plays when needed. It's been a long time since Miami was able to physically dominate a team, which with the the increase in size and maturity of the team, they should be able to do in that first game.

I'm sure the Gators found it hard to be optimistic after crapping themselves for most of their opening game last year against 8-5 Bowling Green (Who would eventually go onto lose to fellow sh*t-ons Kent State, Toledo and San Jose State, in addition to getting curb-stomped 48-0 by an average Virginia Tech).

UF improved enough during the course of that one season to accomplish a 11-2 record. We not only had the remainder of our 2012 schedule to play and improve but an entire offseason (spring and fall) of practices, S&C program, the influx of an entire, highly rated recruiting class and multiple transfers added to the roster. Given all that, why on earth is it so hard to fathom that this team could have possibly improved? I just don't get it...
