Pre-signing day thoughts:

1. We need corners badly. Factor in injuries and how many spread teams we play. You need to travel with at least 6. Right now we have 5. Everyone just thinks you can plug a freshmen in, but then all we hear all season from Gary and certain posters is how young we are. This was Randy's biggest failure IMO. There is not a single CB on the roster that he brought in. You cannot say that about any other position. True, most of the guys left we have from him aren't much, but at least they are bodies. Will we even be able to have spring practice with corners?

2. The biggest misconception and unfortunately most frequent post we see on this board is "We need DTs". What you should be posting is "We need the 8 guys we have at DT to earn their scholarship". Look at our depth and compare it to other schools. 8 is plenty to work with, even with injuries. There are just too many DTs that aren't pulling their weight or are too young. Same for DE. We have 8, just need them to play better. So stop thinking the world will end if we don't get a certain DT who is playing games with us. We will be fine without him. Can always bring in JUCOS for 2014 who really want to be here and not act like a girl with recruiting and be scared of competition.

3. Is Cory White still on scholarship? No comment but just really curious considering how delicate our numbers will be with sanctions coming. Same question for David Thompson. Really, I would rather say good luck with baseball and fill his spot at another postion where we need depth. We have plenty of QBs unless a Maryland type disaster hits.

4. Position changes I would consider if I were GM - Perry back to DE, Cain back to OLB, Bunche to OG and Linder to OT just to tinker in the spring and try it out

5. We need a punter badly. Nobody thinks about it until next season when we have a bad punt that goes 20 yards from some walk on kid who can't handle the pressure and it gives up field position to an already suspect defense. I hope Golden can find another Botts, because he is our biggest loss IMO.

6. No other team in the ACC has the offensive power we have, pending the OL stays healthy. Nationwide I can find some better personnel, but there is no reason we cannot win the ACC based on offense alone and slight improvement from the defense. The question is how hungry will this offense be and what is the mindset. That will come down to how Morris leads this group in the spring and summer workouts. He needs to get with the WRs, who will have a new coach, and make sure there is chemistry with all of them considering how many we play. Finding a RB to help out Duke will be key too.

If you add in the current commits and the probable targets, you have a very well rounded and evenly distributed roster.

Cory White is no longer on the roster....we're at 66 +13 commits = 79. I'm sure there will be another 5 or so that are not on the roster come Fall. We usually average about 8 guys a year leaving the program early due to transfer/medical stuff

I suppose it's possible, but I have a hard time believing that we will have at least 6 more guys leaving the program in the off-season, get 20 new recruits, while self-imposing a 5 scholarship penalty (have an 80-man roster) to appease the NCAA. I am just wondering if Al has caught wind of what the NCAA Allegations Letter will say, and decided it was unnecessary to self-impose that scholly limit. I guess we'll see.

i agree that the CB situation is troublesome esp with finnie gone. i think one of the most important developments for this team moving forward is whether or not tracy howard can turn into lockdown corner that everyone projected him to be. if he's closer to what he is last year than we're gonna have trouble at that position. also, i would be surprised considering our safety depth next year if artie burns doesn't start out at corner. i hate kacy and aj is nothing special either but it seems like the staff is comfortable with that 4-man safety rotation listed above. the corner rotation is much more shaky.

don't think the linder/bunche thing makes sense tho... idk why you would take your starting guard and put him at left tackle and then switch your starting left tackle to guard.

I have written many times, there is NO SUCH THING as 'self-imposing' scholie restrictions! Period!! Tell that to the NCAA and they laugh at you!

I want to see Morris focus-in on playing a complete game,
by blowout USF,FAU,& Savannah ST. of the world by 20-30 going into halftime.

Our DT was just undersized and over power last season ,I hope the young pup Freshman
can put on some weight this off-season

Porter 308 -need to add more power and speed
Pierre 292 -need to add more size
Robinson 291 -need to more power
King 292 - technique is bad one of our weakest lineman
Moore 300 -need to add power very promising future
Ivery 313 -need to add weight
Grimble 292 -need to add weight
Briscoe 295 -need to play

Cain (Sr)
C. King (Jr)
Perry (Jr)
Cleveland
Highsmith (Sr) Already has degree
Thompson (Fr)

That is the correct roster at the moment. White and Thompson are the 2 ? marks at the moment. Some people have reported that White is already off football scholarship and nobody is really sure if Thompson is playing football anymore. Could be at 65 already.

We are still pretty short on numbers in the secondary but Carter and Burns are both studs. I love the young guys but they all need to step up big time. Gunter, Howard, Crawford is a nice CB rotation and we have heard good things about Dortch and Hope. The Bush/Jenkins S combo is the best we have had in a really long time but they are both young. I think the coaches give Burns a look at CB first.

Golden has said we aren't taking a K/P in this class but will in 2014. Said there is a big opportunity for a walk-on or Goudis may do both.

CKing is a RS So. Highsmith is in no way going to be leaving, we would only have 3 S (plus Carter) going into the season.

BT,

Ohio State seems to disagree with you. They self-imposed a 5 scholarship ban for 3 years as part of the whole Tatoo-gate scandal. The NCAA accepted that limitation, yet added 4 more to their penalty.

The NCAA does pay attention to self-imposed penalties, including scholarship reductions

Where is the proof of this? I have a hard time believing this because the time line doesn't add up at all

According to your theory they played 5 short in 2011, 2010, 2009? Or are you saying they self-imposed after they received their allegations because they didn't self-impose a bowl in 2011?

I took a guess on a couple of players
but I was close enough

Power & speed set DT a part from each other
But I like to see 310-330 pound Defense Tackles in 4-3 1 gap D

Here is a link to the Columbus Dispatch listing OSU's penalty:

BTW, this a 9 scholarship TOTAL ban.

I know the penalties, I want see where that they "self-imposed" 5 scholarships a year over the prior 3 years.

I'm only seeing this: The school made the announcement Wednesday and also said it had added a self-imposed penalty of a reduction of five scholarships during the a three-year period to begin in 2012.

Seems like to me they "self-imposed" after they received their NOA and knew they were getting dinged.
