Everyone bashes on the Dline, and certainely is not a great unit. But I watched the D-line pretty closely last game...and my impression wasn't that bad.
Mostly what I noticed is that we were splitting EJ out very wide practically playing nickel on the slot, had Paul 6-7 yards off, and Perryman split out 3-4 yards outside the tackle, and another 7 yards off the line. In this alignment I just don't see how you can ask our DL to make a play without any linebacker support. We consistently had 5 guys in the box. When we did go to a more traditional alignment with 6-7 in the box we really did a good job shutting them down.
I really don't think we can expect them to consistently make plays 4 and 5 on 6 blockers.
