Here me out because I know the DL isn't all-world but...

The scheme we run defensively allows QBs to get the ball out quickly (1st reads)
How can we expect a pass rush if we aren't disurpting any routes (bumping TEs, jamming WRs)?

Also the technique we teach our DL is awful. We are a gap-oriented DL and it sickens me.

Let the South Florida kids loose in the same way Fisch is doing with the offense.

It's so easy to coach defense at Miami - I mean Randy Shannon has a great defensive coordinator record and he did nothing special, at all.

Big difference between having future pro bowlers sprinkled throughout the roster to being lucky to get a guy drafted before the 5th.

i feel like people forget the randy shannon defenses without the pro bowlers on the two deep.

Its the type of defense. There single gap and double gap schemes. Saban for example runs a 2 gap scheme in his 3-4 ala New England Patriots which is meant for the DL to eat up blockers and take up space so they LBs can roam free and make plays.

Whereas a 4-3 defense is a single gap scheme where the DTs responsibilty is to get up field and disrupt

LOL@ its easy to coach D at Miami....ask Randy how well that turned out when he didnt have 1st rounders 2 deep at every position

OP sounds like someone who has never played a snap in his life but can coach defense at Miami....

Go back to our threads on class reviews.

As D$ so perfectly described it, our defensive recruiting in 09, which should be our anchors right now, was catastrophic. We are still feeling the effects.

You must not have watched us much in 2005 and 2006 when we didn't carry a bunch of future pros at almost every position. We would get torn to shreds by the simplest crossing patterns. When he was at Louisville, Bobby Olive Garden had a field day with Shannon's 4-3 scheme. Might want to reevaluate your viewpoint.

Louisville lit our asses up in those 2 years.

I haven't played football... I was a basketball coach. I've just been watching my Canes and football for 20+ years and thought I'd bring up some topics in regards to DL pressure and soft deep zones.

I do understand gap schemes and the role of a DL in the scheme (somewhat)... but do feel free to explain more.

And if you don't mind... explain to me why, when BC had 4 WRs on the field, were we in our base 4-3 packages as oppose to nickel or dime sets?

I can live with bobby petrino carving us up dude is one of the greatest offensive minds in college football... What i cant live with is the likes of Maryland, Boston College, and bottom dweller ACC teams carving us up..

IMO either the DC wasnt comfortable throwing out more young DBs or he felt we were gonna get the ball ran down our throat without as much LB help

The DL play was terrible and with the exception of Perryman and a few plays the LB play was equally as bad. The DL's were on some plays all rushing toward the center and bumping into each other and bringing their blockers with them; on other plays too many of them stood straight up almost on the snap count. Some of this has to be coaching because unless we get pressure up the middle it's going to be a long year.

I do see that D'Onofrio's main goal in life is stop the run (and actually and 3rd and shorts we were quite good)... but after 300+ yards passing 1st half don't you start thinking pass? lol

We underestimated this new coordinator in that we didn't expect him to throw 52 times at us. We thought they'd try to run it up the gut (ala last year)
Adjustments maayne, adjustments!
