Is April 16th D-Day (part I) for Larkin?

Doesn't he have to remove his name tomorrow (but can add it again for good up until the 28 or 29?)?

This is really confusing stuff. I think tomorrow we will know for sure.

Good thing Trey Burke declared for the draft. Burke, Carter-Williams and Smart will all go higher. Also, Kabongo and Brown may be more attractive PGs because of height.

I think with those 5 ahead of him, he is staying IMO.

But doesn't the NCAA / NBA have that rule? He has to withdraw his name by tomorrow if he wants to stay eligible in the NCAA, but can add it back to the NBA draft before the end of April to enter their draft, but also officially giving up his amateur status? Meaning he could withdraw his name tomorrow, but still turn pro?

I don't really understand it but here is my interpretation.

Tomorrow (April 16th) is the day to declare that you are staying in college. On April 28th, that is the last day to declare for the NBA draft.

I don't really get the rule, I get the NBA Committee stuff (to see your evaluation) but too me the only date that matters is the last day to come back to school or the point of no return.

Right, but my understanding is that he can withdraw his name tomorrow and stay eligible, but on April 28 put his name back in and be eligible for the draft, but give up his college eligibility.

Sure, I guess so. I guess then there should be some information tomorrow.

I remember last year people were worried about RJ declaring at this point.

And the year before that. In retrospect he should have left 2 years ago.

You're right (although I don't necessarily believe that he has to "withdraw" since he submitted his name for an evaluation, rather than entering the draft, but that's semantics).

But the fact is that we won't know 100 percent until April 29, when he can no longer declare for the NBA draft.

The old rule, for those who are confused, is that you could enter the draft and workout for teams (on your own dime/reimbursement) and then withdraw by a deadline much closer to the June draft and retain your eligibility. You can't do that anymore - you're either in or out in April.

Wonderful. Thanks man.

I think at this point (with the people who already declared) it would be foolish to leave.

FWIW, the only reputable site I can find that lists Larkin going in the first round is DraftExpress.com, which I do really like, and ESPN is the only one that has him as a top 30 prospect (listed at #30). I haven't tracked everyone who has or hasn't declared, but I'm not sure how he stands out exactly from a pack of points like Kabongo, Young, and Brown who are also potential late first round picks - he is the shortest and the lightest guy of those three, and that may hurt him when workouts happen.
