IRMA impact on recruiting

The '18 class and future classes are being built on staying home and playing at the U. If this storm does bring the same devastation to Miami and surrounding areas that it has other places so far, some of our recruits and families will inevitably end up relocating and you can bet the bagmen will be standing in line offering assistance. I am also thinking about situations like Devin Hester where guys who may have otherwise stayed end up leaving early to help their families. I realize this is the least of everyone's worries right now and I pray the storm miraculously shifts and spares heartbreak for countless families. Just putting my thoughts out there to most likely get hammered. Prayers that everyone stays safe.

This hurricane's predicted to go all the way up to Tennessee. This is also going to hammer Georgia and South Carolina.

The entire west coast is basically on fire and Houston just got shafted by a hurricane a couple of weeks ago. Louisiana experienced Katrina, etc...

A devastating hurricane is not going to impact the University of Miami in terms of recruiting.

The other side of that argument is that disasters tend to draw communities together. That happened with Andrew. Those that did move mostly moved to Broward or Palm Beach county. More importantly you have to have money and flexibility to pull-up stakes and move. I'm going to call the storm recruiting neutral. Best of luck and prayers to all my Canes who are riding it out in Fl. I survived a dozen or so when I lived there.

True. The way everyone came together for Andrew was amazing. I pray that isn't even necessary. Just sitting here frustrated that so many people's lives are going to be affected and nothing I can do about it except just sit here and think which has been pretty stressful. Just posting really to talk.

Tuskkkaloosa got rocked by an F5 tornado in 2011.
Didn't hurt recruiting. At least I think it didn't. But you can correct me if I'm wrong

If anything this should help recruiting by showing kids that staying home when you have a chance is the best thing.

Ok so I am retarded and idiotic for basing my thoughts and post on previous history. I knew I would catch sh*t posting something for open discussion which absolutely can't occur on this site unless it contains plenty of sarcasm, lameass gifs or sounding like a total pedo talking about getting off followed by several others because some kid in high school chose to commit to the U. Creeps me tf out.

Basing my original post on previous history, I decided after seeing some of the responses to do some reading on Harvey because I remembered how Houston received a huge influx of talent after Katrina. It wasn't long until I came across an OU thread discussing having their bagmen offer assistance to potential recruits families to help steer them to OU or keep them committed there. So in other words, it is already happening.

This forum is about all things recruiting and this storm has the potential to have a huge impact on recruiting as well as the rest of our season. I hate the damage that this hurricane is going to cause and how it is going to turn people's lives upside down but it is going to happen regardless and my original post is unfortunately going to be a side effect depending on the path of the storm.

I can't disagree that some people will think about this as a football issue. Perhaps it is time to think about the bigger picture. Because this is, for many, a life issue.

Would up vote 1000 x if possible. OP you obviously are oblivious to the world. Mother Nature doesn't just affect Miami. If you have a television, turn on the news a time or two. You'll be amazed.

If you knew you would get negged, then why'd you post?

Everyone knows that Florida gets hurricanes annually this time of year. Every state has some type of natural disaster of some kind.
