Scuttlebutt from a few other internet sites suggest that there is a great deal of internal dissension especially on the defensive side of the ball. Many players (both Shannon and Golden recruits) do not like Coach D (talk about a misnomer...but I don't like to disparage people so that's what I will call him). We heard about this earlier this year with Tracy Howard and now the talk is picking up steam again. Some of these kids just don't like him and cannot relate to his defensive system (square peg, round hole syndrome). [Not saying this is true but simply relaying what other insiders are saying]
Another troubling issue that is causing dissension surrounds the defensive coaching staff. Allegedly, many of the coaches do not like or have frequent disagreements with Michael Barrow. Barrow is a holdover coach and not from the same coaching tree as the other defensive coaches who all played with or have coached with Golden at PSU and Temple. Barrow is also a firm believer in an aggressive, attacking style of defense that relies more on instinct and not read-and-react philosophies. Coach D....well...let's just agree that he is a mixed bag of defensive philosophies with no real identity at this point. Many of these defensive coaches believe the reason Barrow is on the staff is for recruiting purposes only. Barrow is not bashful and often raises concerns with the defensive philosophy employed by his coordinator. The other coaches ignore him and move forward knowing Michael is not "buying into" the plan. The tension is seen by the defensive players in team meetings. The players are caught in the middle and are adversely impacted by the negative energy.
The offensive side of the ball is much more of a mixed bad. Fisch, Richardson, Kehoe, Carrol have no real common denominators and no prior allegiances that could cause dissension.
Again, not sure how much truth (if any) there are to these rumors/theories.
Perhaps, D$ or one of the other insiders on this Board provide can provide some insight or clarity concerning team unity (or lack thereof).
