Internal Dissension

Scuttlebutt from a few other internet sites suggest that there is a great deal of internal dissension especially on the defensive side of the ball. Many players (both Shannon and Golden recruits) do not like Coach D (talk about a misnomer...but I don't like to disparage people so that's what I will call him). We heard about this earlier this year with Tracy Howard and now the talk is picking up steam again. Some of these kids just don't like him and cannot relate to his defensive system (square peg, round hole syndrome). [Not saying this is true but simply relaying what other insiders are saying]

Another troubling issue that is causing dissension surrounds the defensive coaching staff. Allegedly, many of the coaches do not like or have frequent disagreements with Michael Barrow. Barrow is a holdover coach and not from the same coaching tree as the other defensive coaches who all played with or have coached with Golden at PSU and Temple. Barrow is also a firm believer in an aggressive, attacking style of defense that relies more on instinct and not read-and-react philosophies. Coach D....well...let's just agree that he is a mixed bag of defensive philosophies with no real identity at this point. Many of these defensive coaches believe the reason Barrow is on the staff is for recruiting purposes only. Barrow is not bashful and often raises concerns with the defensive philosophy employed by his coordinator. The other coaches ignore him and move forward knowing Michael is not "buying into" the plan. The tension is seen by the defensive players in team meetings. The players are caught in the middle and are adversely impacted by the negative energy.

The offensive side of the ball is much more of a mixed bad. Fisch, Richardson, Kehoe, Carrol have no real common denominators and no prior allegiances that could cause dissension.

Again, not sure how much truth (if any) there are to these rumors/theories.

Perhaps, D$ or one of the other insiders on this Board provide can provide some insight or clarity concerning team unity (or lack thereof).

I believe it.

If you're playing D1 football, you're a competitive athlete. Probably don't take too kindly to sitting back and watching an offense march up and down the field on you. We do not attack and disrupt an offense. We do not make their QB uncomfortable or attempt to throw them out of their rhythm. We lay back and allow them to do what they want and dictate the style of game that will be played.

As a player, you've gotta be ****ed and probably just went to cut loose and get after it. I can understand the frustration.

I know for a fact that Denzel Perryman, and Mcgee went to Coach (I dont know which one) and asked that telemaque be out pack with the starters at safety several weeks ago but to no avail.

Gotta believe the players on defense are tired of giving up 450 yards+ in offense to the other team every week.

Dissension accompanies losing....they are not so distant cousins. Golden should've cleaned house when he arrived.....Barrow and Swasey should've been gone. He also needs to change his bend but don't break defensive philosophy.

the defense is pure trash and its time for a new system. we do not fit that system here

This is why you never hire your best friend to coach with you.

I've been saying this for a while but I think that AG is eventually gonna have to make that real tough decision to let his buddy go.

on the other hand, I believe this is really both of their philosophies and maybe it just sucks? there is a very very bad problem on defense and it is NOT only talent related

Not a fan of corch D but these rumors only make it worse for the players and Barrow

Instead of *****ing and trying to keep doing what you're used to how about you do your **** job on defense and see if it works?

Let's assume that Coach D is terrible and the real reason for our problems on D (I know for some this is easy to assume for some).

If Al keeps his best friend, given the known above fact, then he is not a good coach and we don't want him at Miami. If he is not professional enough to tell his friend to seek greener pastures, then we need a new guy.

U ever think that maybe it takes some time to recruit the players you need for your system? It's not like blanditos left the cupboard full of talented upperclassmen for them to work with. I expect gradual improvement on defense starting next year.

Armbrister
Rodgers
VT
Shayon Green
Darius Smith
Cornelius

these are the "older experienced" guys we play on D and I don't know if any of them would see the field at FIU.

Then we have a bunch of freshmen, redshirt fresmen, and sophmores filling in the depth chart who happen to already be the best players on the Defense.

Nick Saban could come coach the defense and it wouldn't look any better. Everyone would still be blaming the "scheme" at that point then too I guess.

Before everyone jumps on this just remember its a rumor just like its a rumor as to why EJ was suspended. No one knows what's really going on. When you suck these rumors are rampant

Golden was NEVER the guy who could come in and instantly have success like Brady Hoke did at Michigan last year.

Golden's thing (true or not) is to build a program, having small success over a period of time. IMO, he isn't able to make a quick fix but he can fix it over 3-4 years.

Now sanctions will not aid in the process but I still think depending on the severity he can bring in players and win games. The best thing Golden can do is win 7 games at this point. While that shows Marginal Improvement, some people can only see that. Some people are not able (whether true or not) see a mess on our hands.

While I believe we could have won UVA and UNC, I am not throwing in the towel on Golden in Year II. We have 2 games left, win those games in addition recruit your a$$ of and close strong.

We're not a good team, YET. We need to focus for USF and win. Just win games!

And just to be clear, I'd probably guess there's a 99% chance Dorito returns next season.

Barrow's a tough guy to work with. I saw him, Lovett, McGriff, Hurtt/Petri spend hours in the meeting room arguing. I agree with him though, Coach D's philosophy is complete ***** bull****.

How about someone on D make a ******* play and quit whining like a bunch of 3rd grade girls.
