Former Tigers prepare for Pro Day

Five-star Tigers offensive tackle commit Calvin Ashley of Orlando (Fla.) First Academy said all the right things after visiting Auburn on Saturday and Sunday — and we have every reason to believe he was being honest when he said he was solid to the Tigers.

Sources close to his recruitment told us Ashley, who committed last May, wants to be at Auburn and can’t wait to get there. Also, his mother apparently wants him in orange and blue, and that is key, too. (Ashley’s mom did not make the trip. He was joined by a coach).

We’ve talked with some people who bumped into Ashley during the weekend and each said he sounds firm.

One of our sources who knows Ashley well thinks the only way he doesn’t land at Auburn is if there is a coaching change.

As for Auburn’s biggest threat? Many have assumed it would be Florida or Florida State. You’ll recall he visited the Gators a few weeks ago and praised that program.

However, we’ve been told the sleeper in all of this might be Miami.

But again, right now, Ashley seems set on Auburn — and from all indications, the Tigers are confident at this time they will keep him in the class. That said, they don’t intend to let up until the moment pen hits paper.

Unlike Gall, McDermott, and Darling. When you bump into those guys they sound squishy like a water bed.

If Malzhan has another rough year - he may be out on his ***.

12-2 (mnc game)
8-5 (bowl loss)
7-6 (bowl loss)

More importantly, two bad losses to Alabama.

He goes to a small private school in Orlando similar to UM and played on the same OL with '16 commit Tre Johnson.

Another report I just had seen from the lsu site that stated lsu still leads for surtain Jr. but a bunch of schools are pressing and Miami is the dark horse...

He did not play w Tre Johnson. He left IMG after SO year back to Dr Phillips as a JR. Now at the school Tre Johnson will be graduating from. If they were on the same team Ashley would've been the LT over Johnson

Calvin Ashley transfered to First Academy after 2015 fall season.

Here is a link to an Article about it.

Robert Porcher IV is one of many talented 2017 recruits on a loaded Dr. Phillips team.

Starting the countdown for the top Central Florida prospects toward 2017’s National Signing Day on Feb. 1 spotlights 10 high school football players, including Daytona Beach Mainland’s Cyrus Fa'gan (right), who is ranked as the top safety prospect in the Sunshine State. Among the Sentinel’s 2017 Central Florida Super60, Dr. Phillips has eight players.,...................

Dr. Phillips has eight players listed in the Sentinel’s 2017 Central Florida Super60 and here is a primer of the area’s top 10 players as we moved toward the next National Signing Day, which falls on Feb. 1, 2017............

Dylan Meeks, 6-2, 218, Linebacker, Orlando Dr. Phillips
Meeks isn’t flashy, doesn’t have the athleticism as some of the other top-ranked players and he’s not the fastest kid on the field, but his instincts are second to none. He never misses a tackle and this is a kid you want playing football for you. Everything about him is deceptive, and he’ll beat you every time. He’s humble, has good grades and always expects more of himself. He set the Dr. Phillips tackles record for a season at 152 last year, but he’s aiming for 500 career tackles now. He currently has 385. He’s also a two-time state wrestling champion.

Jonathon MacCollister, 6-4, 253, TE-OL-DL, Orlando Bishop Moore
The quiet assassin on this year’s Class 5A state champion Hornets, MacCollister didn’t jump out to a lot of people watching the games, but his work in the trenches went a long way in helping propel Bishop Moore to a 14-1 record. He was considered, early in his career, to be a
top-notch offensive line prospect, but his athleticism has him pinpointed as a defensive end or even tight end. He can get to the QB fast on defense and he’s an outside edge wrecking ball as a blocker on offense. He can also get downfield quickly on blocking assignments, as well, somewhat similar to what Martez Ivey used to do at Apopka................

Calvin Ashley, 6-6, 307, Offensive tackle, Orlando First Academy
Ashley is at his third school, second for football, as he approaches his senior season. Seeking structure in an academic environment earlier in his career, Ashley transferred to Bradenton IMG Academy from Dr. Phillips during the spring of his sophomore year, but that didn’t work out the way he had planned. He came back to Dr. Phillips, where he has played all of his previous high school seasons, but this year he will be at Orlando’s First Academy. Ashley committed to Auburn in May of last year and said he’s still set on his choice. He needs to develop a bit more of a mean streak in the trenches instead of getting by on pure size, but he has tremendous upside. He had offseason surgery for a torn labrum in his left shoulder, but says he’s doing fine.

Well based on the OP's post it seems Ashley is softening his opinions from last spring about going OOS.
