look i know how you people feel about bleacher report but just go through this slide show...you can only guess where Miami is on that list. i don't know if over rated is the right word, because it was an extremely talented class, i think underachieving would be the best word and for the record i think if Al had that class from day one, Al would've reached an NC. but that's the past and we know al's got us set for the future so that his classes won't ever be on a list like this

I see the perennially underachieving domers figure prominently. Is there another team in the last thirty years that has done less with so much supposed talent?

Craziest story about that Miami 2008 class was the Northwestern kid Miami didn't want. Lavonte Davis played on that team but was a low-level recruit no one cared about. He had zero big time offers. He went to Mid Tennessee State and eventually ended up transferring to Nebraska, became All Big Ten, a second-round draft pick and currently starts at LB for the Buccaneers. The rest of that heralded NW group either never made the NFL or can't find the field, although Spence will eventually get some run.

It was overrated because of it's sheer size. And clearly it underperformed. Some of that may be on the staff and development, but I've long thought some of that was just that the kids were overrated. Not enough drive and self-motivation and self-discipline.

Kids who never made it in (and hence shouldn't have been counted in the rating): Hardin, Harper, B. Marti, Z. Kane

Kids who weren't good: Calhoun

Kids who were overrated IMO: Holton, B. Jones, J. Lewis, A. Johnson, Telemaque, D. Johnson, Futch, M. Robinson

Kids who transferred (but were good): A. Brown, Collier

Kids who transferred (but weren't good): Cook, C. Smith, Wylie, CJ Odom

Kids who had injury issues: Buchanon

Kids who went pro early despite not hitting their ceiling: Streeter, Forston, B. Wash

Kids who had okay careers: Byrd, A. Smith, M. Regis, P. Hill, Thompkins

Kids who played at or near their potential: Benjamin, Spence, B. Harris, J. Harris, Wieclaw

I was going to post this also. It is just astounding that we took 8! kids from one HS team, and the highest draft pick from that team was the kid we didn't take.

Wrong Lavonte David didn't qualify out of high school went to Juco in Kansas and signed with Nebraska. Out of the MNW crew Marcus,Streeter,Spence,Brandon Washington made NFL rosters thats half and a great number. Did they underachive here yes but Spence was an all american here and Streeter had a great rs jr year. Brandon Washington made 1st team all acc as a guard as a soph. Golden should of left him there. I agree tho if Golden was here in 2008 this team would of made at least two BCS bowls.. Also in recruiting if you hit on half your class that is great. Jacory has a couple UM passing records here but did throw too many ints. 3 off cord will do that to you. Biggest bust in UM history Willie Williams and Aldarius Johnson...

David was a late boomer... I don't he ever enrolled in MidTen State... He attended a juco because of grades and he didnt put on size until he transferred to Nebraska... He was talented, but underdeveloped physically as a high school player... The 08 class was talented but they just couldn't take the next step for what ever reasons... Injuries, self-motivation and coaching...
