CORAL GABLES — And good morning from the University of Miamicampus.

The sun is bright and the Hurricanes are on the practice field for the most intense practice of game week. It's a full pads day after the team wore baseball caps and jerseys yesterday.
There were a few developments worth noting from the viewing period. Here we go ...

  • Punter Dalton Botts was out there with his sprained ankle taped, but without the boot and crutch he used yesterday. He wasn't punting when we were out there, but he was practicing holding for place kicks.
  • Backup punters Matt Goudis and Jake Wieclaw were punting off to the side as they compete for the possibility to replace Botts on Saturday against NC State.
  • Linebacker Denzel Perryman again wore the boot on his injured foot. He wore red for injured players not participating in contact drills.
  • Speaking of ankles, Perryman's fill-in at middle linebackerJimmy Gaines had a heavy tape job on his left ankle this morning. He wore yellow for players taking limited contact.
  • And Part III of linebackers with ankles, Raphael Kirby had a decent tape layer on his left leg injured in early August. Look for an update on his status this afternoon after Al Golden addresses reporters.

LB rotation is in trouble. Not sure what we would even do if Gaines is limited as well as Perryman and Kirby. Would be Johnson, Paul, Cornelius with Armbrister, Terry, Fentress as backups and no backup at MLB.

Maybe we'd finally run nickel.

I'm sure they're just protecting Gaines to make certain he's healthy for Saturday. Don't want to lose another LB to a practice injury when we're already thin there. Hopefully DP is back by ND.

Not expecting DP, Kirby, or Porter back before ND at the earliest.

Who?

Curtis Porter. Most people don't know him. He's been injured since he stepped foot on campus.

Serious question --> Has Curits Porter missed more games in his career than he's played in?
Yes. He's missed far more than he's played in.

Not even remotely close. I think he's played in 4 games in 3 years.

The only time Porter has played a full season is his first year IIRC, his true FR year in 2009. In 2.333 years since then, he's played 4 times.

Yet we have plenty of folks on here that have hyped him up to be the second coming of Ngata based off these games. One cat tried to give him the Heisman based off footage from one stinking play.

:rollcanes:

Kid's in serious danger of getting the Mr Fine China award currently held by Lamar "Duck Dive" Miller.

I'd like Kirby healthy for depth, but we still haven't even seen this kid play yet and everyone seems to think he's some huge missing piece. Once I actually see him perform on the field I'll get a little more excited...but yes, it would be nice to have him for depth..
