Driving around here in Palm Beach Gardens I had it on 640 Sports about 30 minutes ago when a guy named "Cedric" called into the show. Apparently, before I tuned in, the host was talking to his partner about how he doesn't believe that the players on the team were that distracted from concentrating on football last Saturday against Wake because of the impending decision from the NCAA. Well, this guy Cedic calls into the show and identifies himself as the father of a 2nd year player on the team and proceeds to rip into the host for speaking with authority about something that he knows nothing about. He then says that he had a number of kids over to his house for dinner right before the decision was handed down and that although confident that the penalties would be light all were stressing due to the uncertainty. I'll summarize some of the more interesting moments of the conversation from here because I'm pressed for time.
- Host asks Cedric why his son chose The U in a time of uncertainty when he had other options. Cedric replies while there were a number of schools that promised him things like a guaranteed starting position/playing time ect. golden was the only one that told his son that he could provide him with the tools to succeed but would promise him nothing. Cedric said that he had the utmost faith and respect for Al.
- Cedric said that there was one coach and one school in particular that told him and his son that Miami was going to get at least 2 more years of bowl bans and severe scholarship reductions.
- Cederic said that this same coach also promised one of his son's friends (and I'm not sure if he said his son was also offered one) a starting spot. His son friend was redshirted and is pretty unhappy about it..
- Cedric says he can't wait to call up this particular coach and call him out on all of the B.S. he's been spewing.
To me, with all that we heard about Mushchamp and his negative recruiting, it sounded like Cedric was talking about him or someone on his coaching staff. Any ideas on who Cedric's son is or the friend who got redshirted might be?
There was more but I have to run. Maybe there was someone out there that heard the conversation and can fill in the rest.
