Incoming DT Transfer

On it's own, I like adding what will probably be solid, experienced depth. That said, taking this guy means we have 1 less scholarship available for the 2018 class.

Transfers will probably still impact this team. Before this transfer, we were bad at DT depth and this allows us to possibly RS one of the incoming freshman.

You are only thinking about the 85 scholarship limit. We've got plenty of room there.

I'm talking about the 25 scholarship per year limit. We don't have plenty of room there and it's impossible to create more room at this point. Taking this kid reduces the number of kids we can sign in the 2018 class.
Although you're correct about him counting, you are incorrect in regards to the 25 scholarship limit.

As per bylaw 15.5.1.10.1 from the NCAA Manual

"15.5.1.10.1 Limitation on Number of National Letter of Intent/Offer of Financial Aid Signings—Bowl
Subdivision Football. [FBS] In bowl subdivision football, there shall be an annual limit of
28 on the number of prospective student-athletes who may sign a National Letter of Intent or an institutional
offer of financial aid from the initial signing date of the regular signing period of the National Letter
of Intent through May 31. (Adopted: 1/16/10 effective 8/1/10)"

That by-law is irrelevant to this discussion. That by-law only addresses the number of kids you can sign to an NLI, not the number you can give financial aid to. Also, that by-law is changing effective this cycle.

Low 3 star recruit out of ohio with offers from:

Cincinnati
Boston College
Bowling Green
Akron

Upgrade over Fines in my opinion. Fits scheme better.

So by reading this....this a golden special then

No, this is a Coach Kool special. Big difference.

Also, if this guys develops in one year and gets a draft grade it will speak volumes about our staff to get 2 grad transfers that ended up playing on Sunday that were gonna be looking for 9-5’s if they didn’t come to the U.

we've had a ton of attrition... dont think this guy will impact numbers.

He absolutely impacts numbers. He counts against the 25 scholarships limit per year.

No he doesn’t, he only has an effect on the final 85 scholarship limit. He will not count as a member of the 2018 class. We will likely have at least 5 scholarships available this year even if signing day goes well...

False, go read the NCAA scholarship rules.

Technically you’re right but that rule is just for show, at the end of the day we’ll find a way to add who we can. Most common way to do that is by rolling the early enrollees back a class. Tennessee signed like 33 players last January for example.

Wrong, we can sign a maximum of 28 this year, including the maximum number of kids we can count toward last year's class, which is 3. 28 is a maximum and we can't increase that number.

Would you trade Fines for him? Because that's basically what we did. Nice move IMO

grad transfers do not count on scholarship numbers.

Graduate transfers absolutely do count on scholarship numbers. The count against both the 85 scholarship roster limit and the 25 initial counters per year limit.

When you look at it, trading him for fines is an upgrade or over even Martin

My morning bowel movement is an upgrade over fines, so this kid is a huge upgrade

It's comical how off base you always are about everything

Tell me how I'm off base. I said that I like the addition of this kid, but I don't like that it means we can sign 1 less player for the 2018 class (which is fact). While it's unlikely that we'll more than 6 spots to fill out this class, there is a scenario where we need more (i.e., if we land all of our remaining targets).

No, that was Fines, who couldn't really play the position Golden recruited him for either. This is a measure that we are taking to correct the Golden special. He can play the position we need him to that the other guy couldn't. I don't think anyone is expecting him to be an All-American candidate. Just depth.

The negative here, if we must do so, is that we didn't have another body we were developing from last year's recruiting cycle 2 perhaps leave us in a better depth position without having to go to the grad transfer route. Again, if we must.

LMAO at people putting a positive spin on this JAG, Jesus Christ mane..... good for depth yea but we got mufuggas claiming according to the numbers hes just as good as Mcintosh..LMAO **** you

you're looking at an old rule book. it was updated in 2012, and the number was changed from 28 to 25

while youre not wrong about the rule, im pleased with the decision to bring in a grad transfer DT as one our 28 incoming players this year.

I agree with you. I think it's a good move, and it's unlikely to affect our ability to sign who we will sign in this class. There's a chance that we need more than the 6 remaining spots if we get everybody left on our board that we want, but that is unlikely.

It will affect our numbers for next year though, but I'm not really worried about a year out.

PS...You helped me understand the rules and our numbers a lot better in a thread a while back.
