IMG 7on7 Top Performers
BRADENTON, Fla. - Fourteen teams from around the Southeast converged on the IMG campus for this weekends regional championship.
The championship game came down to two Miami-area teams, Fire and South Florida Express Elite. Elite came from the losers bracket to defeat Fire in back-to-back close finishes.
The top four teams qualified for the IMG National Championship in July. Fire, South Florida Express Elite, Team Tampa and Top Recruits will all be back to compete against the best 7-on7 teams in the country.
Top Performers
1) WR Shawn Burgess-Becker, Pompano Beach (Fla.) Monarch - Burgess-Becker was consistently spectacular all weekend. Although he's only a 2015 prospect, Burgess-Becker knows how to use his 6-foot-1 frame to climb the ladder and make plays in the air. He was the go-to-guy for Fire all the way to the championship game.
2) WR Ermon Lane, Homestead (Fla.) - The number two wide receiver in the country proved once again why he's one of the best. Nobody threw the ball deep more than South Florida Express Elite and Lane was usually the one on the receiving end. He's a well-built 6-foot-3 wideout with great ball skills and strong hands.
3) CB Kevin Toliver, Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian Academy - Even though Pro Impact only competed on day one, the 2015 cornerback did enough to garner high praise. He may be the best corner prospect in the state this year, regardless of class. Tolliver is 6-foot-2, 180-pounds with long arms and a smooth playing style.
4) QB Sean White, Hollywood (Fla.) University School - The 6-foot-2 quarterback started off hot on day two and led his South Florida Express Elite team to back-to-back wins over Fire to claim the championship. White displayed exceptional arm strength and pin-point accuracy. He rose to the occasion when most quarterbacks were wearing down in the Florida heat.
5) WR Artavis Scott, Tarpon Spring (Fla.) East Lake - Scott was the go-to-guy for defending National Champions, Team Tampa. Even though he's only 5-foot-10 and 175-pounds, Scott's leaping ability allows him to make plays at slot or on the outside. There weren't many cornerbacks that could slow Artavis Scott when his number was called.
6) QB Quinton Flowers, Miami (Fla.) Jackson - The 5-foot-11 dual-threat quarterback had the strongest arm in the entire field. Flowers, who wants to play quarterback on the next level, put on a show this weekend in Bradenton. His ability switch from throwing with power, to throwing with touch, was impressive.
7) WR Travis Rudolph, West Palm Beach (Fla.) Cardinal Newman - Rudolph is an exception athlete who played on both sides of the ball for South Florida Blur. He lined up at safety on defense, but was most effective as a wide receiver. Rudolph made great catches in traffic and displayed the ability to run away from defenders on deep balls.
8) WR Tajee Fullwood, Tampa (Fla.) Tampa Bay Tech - The 6-foot-2, 175-pound wide receiver/cornerback was a force on offense this weekend. He was physical and proved to be a valuable deep-threat for Unsigned Preps. Fullwood commanded double teams all weekend and if left in one-on-one situations, frequently out-muscled cornerbacks for jump balls.
9) CB Duke Dawson, Cross City (Fla.) Dixie County - Dawson was one of the most physical cornerbacks of the weekend. He was Top Recruit's lockdown corner and rarely gave up anything meaningful. Dawson, who is committed to Florida, was also a team leader on defense.
10) CB Derrick Tindal, Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) Boyd Anderson - Tindal was a relative unknown to most outside of south Florida prior to this weekend's tournament. However, he proved to be one of the most consistent cover-corners at the event. Look for Tindal's stock to soar this spring and into summer.
