The defense that Miami ran against Florida will be enough for this team to make a deep run in the playoffs. Luckily Alston and Brown return just in time to make a run. Looking at how different the defense played against Florida vs the defense thats been on the field the last few weeks, it really makes you wonder just how significant of a loss Alston was.

Alright I’ll just let you guys hang on to this one since you’re not gonna acknowledge those things go together
UF didnt put us through the motion USF did really (Ball and FAMU dont count and even FAMU had some success on us - which were early warning signs). along with that, Mertz isnt a runner and Lagway did have some running success on us.

If we are being real our defense was showing concerning signs against FAMU. That pop belly QB they had gave us some fits

Mertz is a bum and we were prepared well. I just think people searching for answers on fixing the defense are looking for fools gold

the last drive before half against FAMU was easily the earliest warning sign along with the run fit bust against UF). they moved the ball down the field with ease on us to get into field goal range.

How do you improve fundamentals this late in the season? 75% of our issues is failing to do the most basic things correctly. It’s not a “scheme fix” issue for the most part. It’s guys failing to get lined up correctly. Guys taking poor angles to the ball carrier and guys just straight up missing tackles.

I was talking to a friend who is more familiar with Guidry from Western Kentucky and Marshall. Knows people that worked on both staffs. He made the point that at Western Kentucky he had a starting DB who was almost completely deaf or mute. At Marshall he had the kid we tried to get to come here after he followed Guidry to Tulane and then went to LSU. He had a bad stutter and couldn't even communicate verbally on the field. Neither of those teams had any communication issues. It can't be that hard. Brain dead players is the most likely problem and that's just not going to be fixed.
