Being hamstrung I would say by results. Manny gambled that a strong start would be enough to allow Miami to go after the biggest recruits; instead we started 2-4. That closed that window leaving us with the worst of both worlds - small class and inability to sign the top players that we wanted.

The larger issue is that all three Florida schools have had instability, just like UT out here in Austin. How many coaches have FSU, UF, and Miami had in the last decade? And how many head coaches have Georgia and Alabama had in the same time (along with national championship appearances)? By now, these two schools can literally run roughshod over the Florida colleges in recruiting.

Miami has to give an outstanding, compelling reason for a top recruit to stay. Thats why the school’s sudden commitment of heavy resources represents the only logical move out of the status quo. We now have stability, and more important a cache of credibility. Manny was struggling to get that and ran out of time. Mario has both.
