I hold 2 graduate degrees from FSU. I lived in Tallahassee for 5 years. I absolutely hate Florida State, and this is why.
1. They are not Miami, but they think they are Miami. I don't buy into that, "I hate Florida, but I respect FSU" crap that a lot of Miami fans spew. It's crap. I have enough hate to go around. Until you've lived amongst them for years, I guess you don't fully understand, but they are every bit as bad as the "Gator Nation."
2. They're not as loyal as Florida fans. FSU fans rag on Miami more for attendance than UF fans, but FSU does not have a great history of amazing support. Look back and they only soldout for Miami, UF or Clemson, even during the 90s. They only expanded their stadium to seat over 70,000 in the 90s and over 80,000 in the mid 90s. They had games with under 50,000 against Wake or Duke 3-4 years ago, but every other word out of their mouths is a knock on our attendance. This from a school with 40,000 students, 85% of which are from the state of Florida.
3. The redneck FSU fans are racist, and routinely make anti-Cuban and Hispanic slurs against Miami players (mostly at baseball games) and Miami in general. They also tend to get really upset when you point out that a good portion of their team, and student body is made up of Cuban-Americans from South Florida. The Cuban-American FSU students/Fans are worse than the rednecks. They are from Miami, and a lot grew up Miami fans. For some reason they feel that they have to prove their "FSU-ness" and are complete and total jackasses.
4. FSU fans rag on Miami for having a lot of fans who did not attend Miami. This is rich since you go to Doak Campbell on a Saturday and the closest 50% of the FSU fans ever came to going to FSU was buying an FSU shirt at Walmart.
Alright, I'm done, now you guys can add on....
