How many recruits do have to sign in Feb. ?

Miami may not ink enough of the remaining targets to max out. Staff will probably have room left for a couple JUCOs or grad transfers on top of regular croots.

Richt said he always likes to keep a couple scholarships back just for those two reasons..

Richt said we had 71 scholarship players before whisky. Since then 4 have left. You know at least 3 more will leave that are dead weight like Knowles, Jones, etc. We have another 3 potentially going to the NFL and 1 confirmed. Add in the seniors graduating means we could sign 30 and still have room for 2-3 incoming transfers.

Richt did say in December we would sign 24-27.
I expect that number to increase significantly now. There’s no reason to have 6-8 empty scholarships. The time is now.

Wrong.

UM signed 24 recruits in 2017 with 10 EE's. So 11 spots in 2018 can count towards 2017. UM could sign 36 this season and still be within NCAA regulations. Obviously, that won't happen. However, only signing 27-28 would leave the roster under 80 scholarships. That makes zero sense.

I went back to 2015 to look at EE's and total signings. I could be off by one spot but regardless we aren't signing in the mid 30s.
The one thing I'm not sure about is if the NCAA sanctions have anything to do with EE's counting a year back or not.

Wrong again. This is getting bad bud. You should probably sit this out.

Counting the number of EEs each year tells you absolutely nothing. EEs don’t automatically count toward the previous year’s class. In order for them to count toward the previous year, you have to have Initial Counters left from that class. There can be and almost always is more EEs than can be counted back. There’s a lot more rules around these numbers than you think and some of them can be confusing. I originally thought we could sign 30 or maybe a little over 30 if we got enough attrition, but I had some bad numbers on walkons and transfers. With the help of some other posters, I got corrected information and it appears the maximum we can take is 27 - 29 regardless of the amount of attrition.

“And though UM lost four players this week (Jamie Gordinier, Ryan Fines, Darrion Owens and DJ Johnson), UM player personnel director Matt Doherty said in a WQAM appearance: “You have a finite amount of initial scholarships you can offer each year. Any comings or goings [the past few days] don’t affect the final number. I don’t want to divulge our final number, but whatever attrition has been coming to light doesn’t affect that.”
