How many recruits do have to sign in Feb. ?

We can sign more than 25. We currently have around 25 open spots with the departures of Owens, Fines, Gordinier, and Walton. With some more departures potentially happening, we could sign 26-28 but Richt has said he doesn't like signing too many in one class.

We have already signed 19 in December so look for another 7-8.

Who:
Nesta (DT)
Chatfield (DE)
Campbell (CB)
Bethel (Ath)
+1 OL- lots of good options
+1 DT- going to look pretty ugly in '19 if we don't sign 2.
+1 WR- If we don't like one then I'd be good with +2 DT or OL
Joyner could use a friend at LB with Owens and Gordinier gone.

We need to sign the maximum in this class, whatever that number turns out to be.

No more being 10 scholarships short, etc.

Get 85 and keep it at that number.

There are a couple things at play.

1. I don't think we can sign 30+ even if we are at 55 kids on ships. My guess is we burned some holders on walk-ons, grad transfers... that get us to 27-29 spots.

2. The december signing period took a ton of good prospects off the table including "plan B" kids.

3. We likely will see more attrition so don't expect to play at 85 unless I'm wrong on our placeholder count (#1) and take some transfers.

If Richt sticks with 27 max, we likely won't play at 85 but won't be at 73 either.

Richt said we had 71 scholarship players before whisky. Since then 4 have left. You know at least 3 more will leave that are dead weight like Knowles, Jones, etc. We have another 3 potentially going to the NFL and 1 confirmed. Add in the seniors graduating means we could sign 30 and still have room for 2-3 incoming transfers.

Richt did say in December we would sign 24-27.
I expect that number to increase significantly now. There’s no reason to have 6-8 empty scholarships. The time is now.

For anyone worried about the 25 per year...we could sign well over 30 players and still be in line with the 25 per year. The EEs count towards last years class.

This is a great question. It all depends on how many ships we can apply to last year. Did Richt say 27 cause that is our absolute max?

Depends on how many can be applied and how many from last year have already been used. We also gave a couple ships to walk-ons.

There has been some movement after the season and just wanted to update my count of scholarship players.

I have Miami with 61 players on scholarship, which includes the deduction of Darrion Owens, Jamie Gordinier, and Ryan Fines, who left after the season. It also includes former walk-on Crispian Atkins, who was placed on scholarship before the season.

Miami has signed 19 players, which puts them at 80. There is one verbal commit (Nesta Silvera) who makes it 81.

Certainly the numbers will fluctuate, but that's where it stands as of now.

My comments: So, after the DJ Johnson news, we are at 60 current players, not including Norton, McIntosh, or Butler (who I dont know if he is on scholarship per 247sports). 80 total including all signed and committed. so it looks like we have 5 spots open.

They only count against last year IF u have them available from last year. This was discussed before and I think we had 5.I may be off but I think that’s the number someone said.
The 85 doesn’t mean much except that you can’t exceed that Amount.Just because you only have 50 players on scholarship doesn’t mean u can just. sign 35 to get you to 85.The number that’s important is 25 and you can only exceed this number with EE that count toward last year is if you have scholarships left over from last year.

Need to find out how many we have left from last year.Add 25 to that and that’s the number we can sign but Richt has said he always likes to keep a couple for transfers Juco’s Etc.

I said we would sign about 28-30 several weeks ago. I stand by that number. We have 19 in fold and can probably sign 10 more when all said and done at the rate attrition has begun, four in the three days since the pathetic loss to Wisky. Expect a few more to go too...

See that’s the thing.Attrition doesn’t matter except to get you under 85.Just because you lose a couple guys doesn’t mean you get those extra schlorarships. We still have 25 plus what we have from last year.

If we lose 4-5 more players then we will play short of 85 again.

Do you know how many we carried over from last year?

We have the room and availability per NCAA rules to sign 3-5 guys over the 25. The question becomes can Richt and staff sign 8-10 more 4-5 star players? Enjoy the ride folks!!!

UM signed 24 recruits in 2017 with 10 EE's. So 11 spots in 2018 can count towards 2017. UM could sign 36 this season and still be within NCAA regulations. Obviously, that won't happen. However, only signing 27-28 would leave the roster under 80 scholarships. That makes zero sense.

I went back to 2015 to look at EE's and total signings. I could be off by one spot but regardless we aren't signing in the mid 30s.
The one thing I'm not sure about is if the NCAA sanctions have anything to do with EE's counting a year back or not.

I went back to '12 and came up with 27-28 based on walk-ons, transfers, grad transfers. You have to go back to '12 as that was the last year we were close to 85 and 25. Even then we could be less than 27-28 or more as we don't have real numbers for who got ships AND what year someone counted towards. For example, if they fail to count our EEs to '17 then we are limited to 25 this year and next assuming we can sign more for the 85 spots.

No matter the case, we have to get 7-8 more top kids to want to sign to get close to 85. We have to retain all but 3 kids on the roster today (not likely) and not sign any walk-ons to ships who have been here for 2 years (after 2 years they don't use an initial counter).

Seems as if the hard work a few of you have done says we can sign close to 30 at least. If that's the case our close could be epic. Richt needs to get that goatee ready to schmooze
