......if Al Golden follows the obvious path.

1997, year three of the Butch regime, things look terrible. Fanbase outraged, Davis labeled "Botch Davis", team humiliated by a surging Noles squad, defense is a joke, talent is a joke, fans beside themselves.

2013, year three of Golden regime, things look terrible. Fanbase outraged, AG labeled "used car salesman", team humiliated by surging Noles squad, defense is a joke, talent is a joke, fans beside themselves.

Post 1997 season: Butch fires his close friend and Cane DC Bill Miller. Completely overhauls the S and C staff by hiring an elite guy in Tommy Moffit. Team turns around.

Post 2013 season: ??????

All AG has to do is follow the SAME BLUEPRINT and this thing WILL turn around. But he's got to have the foresight AND knowledge of history.

Butch fired Bill Miller after the 1998 season. That was the year we gave up 66 points to Syracuse and 600 yards and 45 points to UCLA,

We have been close to this multiple times these past two years

He had a nice story going there. Those **** facts always get in the way.

Does it really make a difference? It's the same thing as during that time, and Butch made the right moves to get the team from what seemed like a helpless mess, to an elite squad. If AG is smart, he'll follow the exact same blueprint.

Miller got 4 full seasons. Butch had 5 straight seasons of 3+ losses. Butch put together the best roster in history (IMO) in those 5 seasons. Things didn't click until year 6. He inherited a complete mess.

Anyone, even Schiano and Shannon, could have coordinated a defense with that much talent, so I'm not sure that the change in DC was that big of a factor (versus the cumulative talent level at the disposal of whoever the DC would be). Maybe it was a kick in the **** to the players at the time, but I doubt it had anything to do with a philosophy change.

Who knows...but I sure as **** hope the results match what Butch did.
