I've been reading many forums, one in particular, but truthfully I've missed any discussion by you regarding our defense.

I regret this as you're one of the few guys who routinely lays it out there with facts and leave out your personal opinions and bias.

What's going on with us this year?

Is it the scheme?

Lack of talent?

D'nofrio?

Our DL and upperclassmen at the safety position might be the worst they've been in 30 years.

I'm curious as to your thoughts and look forward to a reply.

Thanks in advance.

I've intentionally stayed off of the subject and mostly off of the board. We're in the middle of a 6-6 type season. Look up the things I said before the season started. I simply said we were a 6-6 team and hopefully got a couple breaks to go 7-5 or, gasp, 8-4.

The defense is in shambles and it's a combination of all the factors you mentioned. They've actually slightly outperformed what I expected out of them, especially in the last two games. My focus has been on the offense because they're doing less with more. On the defensive side, like you said and I've been repeating since the beginning of the season, we're watching possibly the least talented defensive line in the last 25 years at UM.

Worse yet, they're being asked to play to their weakness (physical strength). Even worse, we have guys covering "areas" behind them or simply playing read/react 6 yards off the line of scrimmage. You can see a few wrinkles in the last couple games, but we're playing at an automatic disadvantage anyway.

I don't have a technical response for you because, really, it is what it is...on defense.

Personally, I'm more concerned with squeezing the existing juice out of the offensive fruits than I am with kicking around a juiceless [defensive] fruit.

Not alot of juice on the offense from my seat at sun life this saturday. With Duke hurt wasnt a guy who looked like he wanted to make a play...

From the skill position, we got a qb who sprays the ball everywhere more consistently then hit a target in stride, we got a bunch of receivers who seem to have a problem catching a pass when it is on target, we have no TE, NONE. And we have a hard working guy in mike james who has played well this year but...

This offense got fat off some big plays early but when we have played some real defenses no one has stepped up to make a play, a bunch of guys that seem to be looking around for someone to step up.

Appreciate the response.

Do you think talent and literally "growing up" through the S&C program?

Coaching change?......changes?

The FSU game for me was a proud moment. I don't know why and base this only on the fact our guys didn't get their **** pushed in and knocked quite a few FSU players out of the game.

I think the culture is changing....I just question the coaching.

Linebackers on WR's drive me nuts...

The offense has plenty of juice relative to what the defense is working with (specifically being asked to do).

I don't think D'Ono is an innovator, if that's what you're asking. I do think he'll have some serious horses in a couple years. I'm skeptical if he'll be able to maximize their talents, but I don't have evidence that says he won't, either.

I'm proud that the DLine is basically a 6' 3" 2 Guard being asked to play post defense, and they're at least putting up some fight.

Didn't Butch go through much of the same stuff as Denny Fortney, Marvin Davis, Rod Mack, Michael Lawson, Marcus Wimberly, et al, were out there and eventually a better group of players were eventually brought in?

Even then, a very talented- yet green- defense in 1998 gave up a ton of points at the end of that year and got Bill Miller fired

I know folks hate to hear this, but this is a process that will take time

I've been saying this all year. I feel like most of the defensive problems at least on the defensive line front stem from players being asked to play a scheme that they simply can't play.

Let me ask a more specific question. Do you see any players on either our offense or defense that are being under-utilized?

In other words, are the coaches putting players in the best position to succeed?

I know people are going to beat their chest in with Dallas Crawford moving to safety. While he could be good there, he hasn't exactly excelled at special teams like Perryman did last year to earn the time.

Crawford, if we get Collins, should get a chance at safety in the off season.

Yes it will K-9. But I think what folks hate hearing is the this "time" is going on 8 years. That's a looooooong rebuilding project.

With all due respect my brother, if it had been Golden trying to build for 8 years and we were still hearing that, I'd agree with that statement. But that is one helluva mess that Coker/Shannon left for Golden to clean up. It's gonna take time, and Golden's only been on the job for 1.5 seasons thus far. If Golden had already made us a national title contender in 1.5 seasons, I'd be wearing a cross with Golden nailed to it around my neck.

If sanctions are lighter than expected, we might be "back" around 2014/2015. If sanctions are tougher than expected, there's no telling. 2017/2018 might be the next time this team is up to the standards we want, if that ends up the case.

I'm throwing the word "young" out the window, because the younger players will make mistakes, but they're also some of our bigger playmakers. It's the upperclassmen that aren't nearly as good as they should be, so this is a "bad" roster, not a "young" one.

So between the "bad" roster, and the looming NCAA sanctions--Golden has his work cut out for him, and the only things in concert that can cure our ills are work and time. I think it's pretty well-documented that Golden is one of the hardest working HC's we could have hired...so we just need to let time take it's course as he works.

This to the bolded. We have a ton of deadweight on this roster and it's not the young guys. Someone posted all of the missteps we had from the 2009 and 2010 classes and it was straight up appalling.

In general, rebuilding can take 20 years if it is not done right. You will continue to "rebuild" (when the word(s) is really waste time) until it is done right.

Everything other coaches did, is in the past and done. It is all wasted time and in the past.

Now the point is, our fans are fed up of waiting because it has been X years since _______ (insert when you think we were good). They want it now, they want to win now. We all want to win now, nobody is happy with 6 wins or whatever. The difference is some of us understand that dead effort in the past is irrelevant toward the future.

Whether you think Golden is the right guy or not is not my point. The point is rebuilding takes time or wastes time unless it is done right.

Davon Johnson on offense! The guy is constantly open "when they play him" .... he also catches the ball when it is close to him! They are playing him more but still, not sure why they are using him across the middle .... no one has been able to cover the guy!!!
