Something I think glossed over after the Cristobal and Coley hires is the future impact on recruiting. Yes, everyone wants not only an x's and o's guy, but thee next great x's and o's guy, at your school. And superior scheming can overcome lots of disadvantages. But there is no substitution for good old fashioned, whoop the *** of the player across from you, talent. Something can be said for getting some of the best talent in the country and properly utilizing it. You can do those things, you don't need gimmicks. You don't need a playbook 400 pages thick. Though the details have changed over the years, the name of the game is still the same. Gather the talent, develop it, maximize it. And while whether or not our staff will be able to do the latter will be answered in due time, I think they are certainly capable of the former two. So, back we go to recruiting, aka. the State of Miami, the Great Wall of SoFla, keeping kids home to play in front of the familiar, etc..

With the changes in recruiting on the horizon, the type of effort needed to secure that talent will be all the more crucial. For those unfamiliar with said changes, take a gander (and yes, I fully realize that :espnsux:, go and look anyway):

So, in this flood of texts, calls, etc, that recruits will be barraged with, personal relationships will be all the more crucial. And so, who did Al Golden just hire but just two of the most well known, and highly thought of, figures in South Florida recruiting over the last half dozen years or so. What a coincidence. Two guys that know coaches at high schools, two guys that have known some of these kids since optimist football.

Considering the NCAA **** hanging over our heads, and the general craziness of South FLorida recruiting (Street agents, coaches with agendas, and duffle bags, oh my!), you might not see it in full effect this year, but, barring some unforeseen calamity (this is Miami Hurricanes football we're talking about here), the next couple years should be plenty interesting. And not in least thanks to this guy getting it...

According to Miami Nights none of this means **** unless we see instant results.

Planning, communication skills, management prowess, intelligence all come after a great team is on the field according to the great one.

Remember: instant success on the field comes before the other "meaningless" stuff.

Of course, Nights is like the Confucius of college football. That's why coaches like Larry Coker and Gene Chizik are so revered, they figured out the first thing you need to do to build a program is to win a title.

Golden is one smart mothafugger. I don't understand where people seem to thing that a coach has to be one or the other when it comes to recruiting and X's and O's??? Football isn't rocket science. Get the studs and line them up to make plays. Miami is successful when the 2nd string can step in and there's no drop off. Players used to get injured during games and we as fans never worried because we were about to see the rise of the next baller.

Golden can develop talent. Golden can recruit. Let's pretend that Golden goes after coaches that know their X's and O's and that he knows his too. It isn't out of the realm of possibility. You can have double threats in this game called football.

Truer words were never posted. Al just jumped ahead of the curve on this.

CrystalBall and Coley might not pay huge dividends this cycle. But I can guarantee you fellas it's going to get U-G-L-Y for anyone trying to recruit this area against us the next couple years. These dudes are going to be mistaken for old school East Germans with the wall they put up around this area. Look out for Claus CrystalBall and Adalwulf Coley!

This staff needs to stay together. UM needs to pony up some more money for the assistants to keep them around.
