Halftime adjustments

In the post-game presser, Golden alluded to an adjustment Coach D made at halftime involving the D-line. It obviously worked, but does anyone know exactly what that adjustment was?

PS --- deported from Bolivian, now wandering around Paraguay eating caterpillars.

The adjustment was "fill your gap, forget where you think the ball is going".

i think the exact words he told the entire defense was "DO YOUR ******* JOB AND WORRY ABOUT YOUR INDIVIDUAL ******* ASSIGNMENTS"

1:50-2:40 of Al's post-game presser...he says something like (paraphrased) "Mark made a shift up front and that formation went away" (I presume he was talking about that diamond thing). Just wondering what that shift was....

Not sure but it looked like the DEnds played latterly and took the pitch back instead of going upfield and attacking the QB.

At halftime, coaches were giving out free "White girl-aka cocaine" to the whole team. It picks u up and calms you down, its the lifeblood that the drives the dreams of a champion.!
You can take this to the bank! This is what really transpired.

Since we are into causing bad karma, we hadn't trailed till this game. Now that all of that's out of the way lets finish this ******* season right.

Could be. Seemed like Chick was involved in a lot of the success in the second half (and failure in the first half) at stopping the pitch man. Anyway, I was wondering if it was a positional thing, assignment change, personnel change....

It looked to me like Chick was assigned the FB in the first quarter/half, leaving LBs responsible for the QB and pitch. In the 2nd half, Chick set the edge and contained the QB leaving the FB for the DTs and the LBs to carry the pitch.

I'm no X's and O's guy, but my understanding of defending the triple option is that the MLB has the fullback (option 1), DE's set the edge and have the QB (option 2), and the LB's/DB's on that side have the pitch man (option 3). That diamond formation thing isn't classic triple option, so perhaps Coach D had to make some change to the assignments. There must be someone on here who breaks down film who knows what he did, right?

Whatever it was I dont think it's worth all the back-patting. It's not like GT unveiled a whole new offense--that diamond formation is overblown. Our main problem was that we werent stopping their base offense and there is really no good excuse for that. VT stifled this team and we should have as well.

Realistically this was not a good defensive performance against a team that has no flexibility if you can stop their basic set of plays.

On Joe Rose, AG said it was an adjustment in the down 4, but he didn't go beyond that (other than saying that adjusting to the speed at which GT can execute that offense was a big challenge). He did say that GT had a new formation that had the D out-leveraged, and that's what the adjustment to the down 4 involved.

pennmed, sorry, that's not what golden said on his joe rose interview this am.

So he said we did some fantastic defensive job, or he said gt reinvented their offense overnight? I'd say that either is a joke. There's no harm in saying that we just weren't very good on defense. We should've stifled that one-dimensional team.

donofrio said that in the first half GT was doing some stuff they hadn't done for the last two years. at halftime, he drew up a response, got the defense to understand it, and then after the half shut it down.

I don't watch a lot of Tech, but how do you interpret that? I can see a couple plays here and there and that stupid diamond read option may have been new but Tech is Tech they've been running the same **** since Johnson's been around. I find it hard to believe that they were holding back losing a home game to vt then unleashed a new O against us.

It's clear that we played a better game in the second half and nobody would dispute that. What I would dispute is that we were playing a disciplined, prepared defensive game in the first half but were only getting riddled because they unveiled a bunch of new stuff. We just needed to get our **** together because we weren't playing well defensively. I did not anticipate them hanging 30 on us and they really shouldn't have plus or minus that stupid formation they unearthed.
