All of these guys are eligible for a 6th year due to seasons cut short by injuries suffered on the field. Wouldn't it be amazing to get these guys back for a 6th year to lead this d line again.

If Porter stays healthy, he is gone. Kid will be at least a 3rd or 4th rounder.

It is a little crazy that Luther Robinson has been here since 2009 and only played in his 22nd game yesterday. Redshirted in '09 and then the injury in 2011.

is this true?

i'm also interested in this. I don't think Porter to the nfl is a sure thing by any means. Regardless, if we could have Green back another year it would be amazing. Hes a leader on the team and is much better than our fans give him credit for.

NFL teams won't draft an NT with health concerns unless they are elite. Porter needs to just keep doing what he is doing and he will be a solid draft pick.

He changed everything for us out there yesterday.

I don't think its true for Porter. He played late in the year in 2011. Would be a hard sell to try to get that year back.

Yes this is true.

NCAA Medical Redshirt Rule

The medical hardship waiver can be requested to the appropriate conference or to the NCAA if the institution is an independent. The following situation must be met per NCAA rules: a) the incapacitating injury or illness occurs either during the senior year of high school or during one of the four seasons of intercollegiate competition, b) the injury or illness occurs prior to the first half of the playing season that concludes with the NCAA Championship in that sport, and c) the student-athlete has not participated in more than two contests or 20% (2.5 games) of the scheduled contests (whichever is greater).

Players Medical History

Green:
2010 (Redshirt Freshman): Played in first two games of season, but did not play for remainder of season due to injury.

2011 (Sophomore): Saw action in four games, battling injuries throughout year

Robinson:
2011 (Sophomore): Missed season with lower extremity injury.

Porter:
2010 (Sophomore): Started in the 2nd game of the season against Ohio State, but did not play for remainder of season due to injury.

2011 (Redshirt Sophomore): Hampered by injury suffered during training camp, but made appearances in final two games of season ... Finished with 10 total tackles, including one tackle-for-loss ... Had season-high seven tackles in season finale against Boston College ... Earned letter.

If Porter stays healthy he will have a big year....and he will and should go. Why would he risked getting injured again? Plus we will have a new QB so never know what to expect from that team. He would have to cash in and be lucky and thankful he finished a season healthy

I think even with a good year Porter is a 4th rounder at best. There just is not enough tape on him and his injury history will hurt him. I think if he was able to come back, stay healthy, and have another solid year his draft stock will rise.

That's an old copy of the rule. It's now 30% (and has been for a few years). That 30% is rounded up. That means the kid could play in 4 games. The rest of it is correct.

They would still have to apply, wouldn't they? Like Ojomo getting denied?

Yes they will have to apply. Ojomo was denied because his injury was not actually football related, remember he had his jaw broken in a fight with a walk on. All of these guys suffered season ending injuries either during practice or a game withing the first 2 games of the season. They all fully meet the necessary requirements to be approved for a 6th year

Thanks for the correction. With that said I do not see any reason at all that any of these guys will be denied if they apply.

Gotcha. Wasn't sure how discretionary the whole process really is.
