Those who like to debate star ratings of players vs player development of should read this article. The article does a great job of actually measuring the performance of top recruiting classes and players 4 years later for the top 25 and how some lower rated classes and players developed vs the perceived national signing day program winners.

I'm going to read the article, but first this.

This argument is like Nature vs. Nurture, and the answer is the same. It's both. You have to have great athletes to make it to the top and you also need great development. Sure, a few teams over perform and a few underperform, but mostly you end up with the record your recruiting ranking and coaching talent dictate you'll have.

I'll have to take your word for it being worth the read, I'm too cheap to pay. And I hate free trials because I'll forget to cancel.

As for "can't be enemies", that's like "I won't fight you"...only takes one person to make that sht work.

In the end I'm too lazy to have actual enemies, that was a joke.

Mostly.

I didn’t pay. If you download the app on your phone or tablet it does not ask for any info. Just create account or use Facebook login and you can read the article no problem with no payment or info required.

I know you were joking brother lol.

But question were we allies before this post?

I'll see if I can muster the energy to sign up.

And I'm cool with everyone on here that I'm not actively fighting with. If you're a Cane and only sometimes a dck, we're allies.

I get the point you're making, but to me development is the key to success. I'll take it a step further and say that evaluation from the coaching staff is just as important as the star rating system many fans use as a resource. Too many variables when it comes to stars. Howard, Jimmy and Butch did a great job of identifying talent and developing it. Howard started it and Jimmy perfected it, but Butch took it to a whole 'nother level. It's a big reason why those are the 3 coaches most beloved by the UM faithful. GO CANES!

Those guys were great evaluators, but they were also working with a lot of highly rated players too. It's not like Butch built that team out of guys everyone else ignored. He found some hidden gems but he also got some top ranked guys.

One thing I'll say is that over the next few years I think development is more important than recruiting. I say that because we all know we're getting the talent to win 10+ games a year already. We just need somebody to put it together and properly motivate the team so they don't sht the bed against the UVAs of the world. If we play to our current potential we'll find ourselves real close to Clemson and far ahead of the rest of the ACC until fsu gets their act back together. From there it will come down to recruiting like bama/Clemson/osu if we want to reach the top.

So right now coaching is the priority, but that will shift to more of a balance between coaching and recruiting.
