He dips his finger into the mysterious bottle and then places it to my forehead and blesses me. This ritual, now understood, is intended to protect each one of his soldiers as they prepare for war, empowering them with the passion and strength he himself displays.

Watching Lewis go by each and every one of his teammates during a relatively meaningless preseason game, I could see the results of each encounter immediately uplift his “disciples.” It was as if he injected every man in that locker room, including myself, with synthesized courage.

I distinctly remember, at that moment, the magnitude of this experience. I knew then that I would forever be a changed man.

Fantastic article man! Ray is the Godfather of the NFL. Luv that dude!

I've said it many times. He is the best defensive player in football history. Period. Full stop.

What cements him as the greatest all time is the longevity. He's already played in 2 more pro bowls than Butkus had NFL seasons.

Agreed. His skills combined with his attitude just rise him up.
His leadership sets him apart. He's pobably the best defensive player based just on his accomplishments, but his ability to elevate and motivate the guys on his team is unprecedented, IMO.

His intangibles are tangible.

And some people don't think his son deserves a scholly? SMDH...... if even a tenth of that man's philosophy, work ethic, attitude, and ferocity have rubbed off on his son over the years we have an A+ player coming to Coral Gables.

Agreed, anyone else think he could get into coaching when he hangs them up?
Great athletes usually find coaching frustrating, but he'd make a great GA at the U when his son is here:)

Holy isht can u imagine our Defense playing with that attitude and intensity again! We can only hope thats the plan.

Gotta say you've been leading this train for some time. I've always resisted because Lawrence Taylor simply changed defense. I've never seen a guy pop off the screen the way he did. To my young eyes, it seemed like he was a cartoon figure playing amongst regular men. With all that said, while I still would take LT over Ray Lewis in an all-time debate, I think you're closer to the truth than I once thought. Ray has a few Michael Jordan attributes that, 15-20 years from now, will only be more inspiring.
