Jimmy Graham got paid today by the Saints with a $40 million deal. Highest contract for a "TE" ever.

Not bad for a basketball player.

There were a lot of doubters in our ranks when Jimmy suited up for us and to some extent it was understandable, but there is a great life lesson there for young players about handwork, focus, discipline, and determination. Happy for JG. Well deserved.

Mad happy for him. Will never forget the crap he got for the VT game. Two big drops .... Never looked back.

One of the most dominant receivers in the NFL today drops two wide open passes against VT. Hard to believe now.

Good for him. Have never heard a negative word personally about him but if we're being honest, his legend as this great Cane is only a result of his unbelievable NFL career. We wouldn't even be talking about him now as a Cane if he flamed out in the NFL. I'm not taking a shot at him or anything as he obviously would have been a dominant 4 year college player but he's not even in my top 4 of recent Canes TE's.

well deserved..he handles the negotiations all wrong with the WR and Te bull****...

How so? The data supported his claim. He lined up as a WR more than a TE. I'm still not sure how he lost arbitration.

In the end it doesn't matter, he got paid.

He is also a freak athlete. It all starts with the right DNA. :)

I kind of alluded to it (before criticizing the general (mis)perception of his Canes football career) but his backstory can't help you do anything but be happy for him. For all the kids we make excuses for as a result of their family situations, Graham is the epitome of someone that emerged from a lot of crap and by all accounts is a grade A human being too.

Had he actually played 4 years in college he would be in your top 5. He only played 1 year of CFB.

Of course. He probably has the two VT type drops early on in his Canes career and then begins to start to resemble more of what he is now- which is almost indefensible- as an upperclassman.

yes he did...but to claim he was a wr was wrong and was shot down..Wr dont get covered by LBs in the league ( only at Miami)...he is listed on his web page/twitter/ fantasy leagues etc.....he is the best at the TE position and he did get paid..

He played like 65% at WR and 35% at TE. The problem with his argument is that a true WR never lines up as a TE which he does 35% of the time. TEs have been split out like a WR since the Ditka days, it doesn't make you a receiver. Glad he got paid tho, guy is a savage.

True it does not hurt to grow to be 6'8" with quick twitch muscles :), but I want youngsters to understand that their DNA is only part of the equation. Jimmy is an excellent example of what can happen in life if you work hard, remain focused, and you are disciplined and determined in pursuit of what you want out of life regardless of the limits naysayers may place on you. No, you might not make it to the NFL, but if you will follow that formula you will have a good shot at being successful in life.
