Now I realize why he didn't sprint to the ball, he was too gassed from doing violence (still shoulda ran to the ball).

The refs really screwed us on the non overturn. Would have been 2nd & 19 and the defense was really flying around at this point. Yes, Barrow did drop RB for 5 yard loss on the next play before the the screen screwup, but 2nd and 19 with the way we were playing defense woulda been huge (or we just woulda found a new and interesting way to give up a 50+ yard play)

Awesome play Bain, glad to have you back!!!

him and jalen rivers back will impact more than what people believed, excited for both to be back for potentially the toughest game in louisvile
Absolutely… from a statistical perspective Louisville is better than Cal and VT offensively and defensively and they are far enough a head of them that even if we do what we do that won’t change. They are much better offensively than the two we just went to the wire with.

CLEARLY a backwards pass. Should have been 2nd and 19 and they are playing for a punt.
Yes I thought so to. Ball lands real close to the 11 yard line, but although there's no perfect angle it looks to me like at best the ball was at the 11.5 when he released it. Should have been called a fumble on the field, which is what I believe the Refs are encouraged to do when there's doubt.

Can someone familiar with the rules explain what the possible outcome of that review was going to be?

It sure looked to me like a backward pass, but what then is the call? They blew it dead on the field as an incomplete pass, that stopped everyone from continuing the play, who knows what would have happened.

So they review, they decide it was a backward pass, then what? Dead at the spot the ball hit the grass? Dead at the spot of the passser?

I think if Bain had pursued and tried to recover the ball, we might have had a chance with the ref on the call..

The RB picked up the ball. Had it not been blown dead he would have ran with it and probably gained 5 yards. So we actually got bailed out on that one. But it does beg the question. What would the ruling have been if they did decide it was a backward pass? It is marked at the spot the RB picked it up?

i know it's one of the two options you mentioned at the end there. not sure which lol. i know for a forwards fumble with no clear recovery (in this case because the play was blown dead), it's a dead ball at the spot the ball was fumbled, not where it ended up. but the rule may be different for a backwards fumble.

Funny I thought Bain would need some time to regain his form...he chucked those two like they were middle schoolers.
