Know its speculated on here from time to time..

USA Today released its annual list of how much money college football coaches are making, and Hurricanes coach Al Golden ranked 46th among the 119 the newspaper was able to get information on.

Golden, signed through Feb. 1, 2020, is making $2.148 million this season, less than at least seven other coaches in the ACC. Seven schools weren’t represented in the chart: ACC schools Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Boston College were among them.

The ACC coaches USA Today reported as making more money than Golden: FSU’s Jimbo Fisher ($2.75 million), N.C. State’s Dave Doeren ($2.555M), Clemson’s Dabo Swinney ($2.550M), Virginia Tech’s Frank Beamer ($2.541M), Georgia Tech’s Paul Johnson ($2.515M), Wake Forest’s Jim Grobe ($2.251M) and Virginia’s Mike London ($2.189M).

Golden will be getting a raise after the season. What he has done is remarkable considering the Shapiro crap and the crap Shannon recruited to UM. Definitely deserving of the best salary in the ACC.

A couple of things surprise me about this; how are coaches such as Doren and Johnson making so much and given the fact that they are and so many other coaches are realitvely close, how is Jimbo not making more?

How do they know his salary? We don't release the information and we're a private school.

I'd prefer we put great incentives into our coaches' contracts.
E.g. win a BCS game = 300k bonus
Win a championship = 500k bonus
Beat Virginia for the first time in however many years = 5 million $ bonus

Johnson started out hot at GT, won 9 game in his first year, and in his second GT won 10 games, won the ACC championship, and played in a BCS bowl...so that's why he's getting paid.

Doren is getting paid based on his resume at Northern Illinois; he took them to an 11-win season in his first year, and a 12-win season and a BCS bowl in his second year.

As for Jimbo, he started out with a moderate salary because he had no previous HC experience.

Give 750K bonus this year for beating the fliggin gator. Need to take Al to 3 mil at least. Considering what he has done under the conditions, it is clear that he is probably the best coach in ACC and then some. It is THE U, so you got to win titles, but you take away the **** hole the school put him in to start and that FSU game probably comes out different. I love Howard, but we got bowl ban under him, Dennis almost got us the death penalty, Jimmy lost three championships he should have won. I watch the team this year and see what an Al Golden team is going to be-- hard to beat. We need the depth of a couple more good classes and two more great players each side of the ball to cover little mistakes by others, and we are elite. You can see holes in 2 deep left by the recruits we didn't get the last two years. You can look at the 2014 class and see Al fixing it. We have to keep Al at all cost.

Al isn't going to be the best-paid coach in the ACC yet, nor should he be. He'll prob get a bump this year to around 2.5 mil, which will put him in the top 2 or 3. But he needs to win a conference title and BCS game before I'd consider paying 3 mil or more.

Lulz. No.

When Golden gets the best team in the conference, then he can have the best salary in the conference.

Golden probably makes more than those other coaches except Jimbo because Florida has no state tax.
