without the three turnovers we may very well win, but the d still would have given up 400-500 yards and kept the opposing team in it. Burns, Coley, and O'Donnell just didn't do them any favors
 
I expect the normally calculated Golden to really ***** up the postgame presser. He has to be shell shocked.

When does TOs and offensive problems give a defense green light to suck. Golden's first thought after the games is to defend his best buddy. Its a troubling trend. It started bothering me last season when we were in those crazy shootouts with NCST and Duke etc. They never accept responsibility for the problems we face on defense. Thats very troubling. 33 games is a very large sample size

those 2 fumbles swung things so badly..... after our 1st TD, we force va tech to punt, Coley has great return. we have great field positon who knows what happens??

could have been a completely different game if we go up 14-0. While our D played like s*it tonight, you put them in a sh*tty position 2 possessions in a row

Sorry ball but facts are facts.... Yes our D did not do us any favors, but the momentum completly swung when our guys turned the ball over and gave them a short field

Our D has bailed out our O a lot this season, last year it was the opposite and tonight the special teams decided to give the ball away 3 times! I say 3 because of that botched punt

guy, we didnt fumble on our side of the field...they still had to go 50+ yards to score a TD. You're telling me Duke has the talent to handle this atrocious offense but we cant hold them to a field goal?
 
If Coley doesn't fumble that first punt return, I'd bet we go up 14-0 and win. Maybe the defense doesn't play as G-d awful because VT has to become more predictable and play from behind and we also keep the momentum....BUT, he still needs to address the fact that the defense was HORRIBLE again.

momentum is a ******* excuse. anytime ****heads talk about "momentum" you know theyre ******s. the game is 60 ******* minutes, it doesnt matter when you score. points in the first quarter dont matter more than points in the fourth. if your team lets getting behind by 7 points in the first ******* quarter rattle them, theyre BADLY COACHED.

3 TO didn't help, but we still could have won that game. Offense, and defense sucks ***. Not impressed with OC Coley, and Duh is Duh.

You're more confident than I am that our defense can stop someone just because they are predictable.

At least just tell me that you are EXTREMELY unhappy with this defensive performance.

On two of those plays the defense was on the field at about the 50. Not an ideal situation but still a chance to get off the field with no damage done. The kneel down by the punter. Is it wrong to expect the D to at least hold them for a FG? We put zero resistance in all 3 instances. That is 21 points when better defensive play could have kept it to more like 10 or less. Using the turnovers is just an excuse. The main reason why they hurt is because 2 of them took our offense off the field with great field position.
 
This scheme is Als. He believes in what hes doing and takes pride in it. Pride can be a downfall. He probably does believe that the turnovers and things like mental errors are why the defense continues to struggle. I will be shocked if we change what we do defensively under Golden.
